Fellow RVers,
I tow a 5er with a Dodge V10 dully. I have been looking for an auxiliary gas tank to put in the bed of the truck that will set level with the sides of the bed. Almost all the tanks I see are diesel or cost in excess of 1000 dollars. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to get a gas aux tank a little cheaper? Thanks, Mike |

Have you considered a set of "Jeep" cans. If you carry 10, you will have 50 extra gallons. The will fit below the truck bed as well.

I think I remember seeing rather small transport tanks in Northern Tool catalog.
Transferflow sells aftermarket poly tanks that fit under your bed, kinda pricy for the size in my opinion though. "As nightfall does not come at once, neither does oppression. I may be wrong, and if so, some will correct me, but I think that in-bed GASOLINE tanks are illegal, that's why you only see them for diesel. The under bed tank is what you will probably have to get.

I think Stan may be right - permanently installed gas tanks must pass federal crash-worthiness specs and I think that in essence means they must be mounted between the frame rails and well forward of the bumper.
When I inquired at Transfer Flow several years ago about a tank for my vehicle, they explained about all the specs they must meet to certify a tank for a vehicle. They had a tank that would probably fit but would not sell it to me without certs and they did not know when or if they would certify a tank for my vehicle. There's another consideration that no one seems to ever think about: weight.
Once you add an after-market fuel tank and fill it up with fuel, are you going to have enough towing capacity and payload capacity left over to pull anything larger than a popup?
