Need help:
We just opened up our 2001 Sunnybrook 5th wheel for the summer and after closing the hot water tank by-pass tap and opening the the water inlet taps we ran water through the whole system to clean out anti-freez. We turned on the elec. for the hot water heater and after awhile we went to get hot water to start cleaning the inside of the trailer and no hot water. We quickly turned of the switch for the elec. and fired up the gas to heat the water but still no hot water. We are getting water from both hot and cold taps but water is not heating any ideas? 28' RKFS SunnyBrook |

The one item I can think of is to double checkthe by-pass valves to make sure the water is going in/out of the heater. This is a shot in the dark but I guess it beats no reply at all. Good luck.

Yes, I would agree. Unless you had complete failure so that neither gas nor electric would heat up then it should be a matter of a mistake in the bypass switch position.
Mind you, your thermostat might be toast which would give the electronics the impression it's up to temperature and not light/heat the element. |

I agree with John too. Double check the valves, top N bottom must be open, center must be closed, for normal operation. If the center valve is open, and either of the other two valves are closed, you get cold water to both faucets.

If the power was ever turned on while the water heater was empty, it burned out the electric element.

Hi Sunnytwo-
I had the same problem with my brand new 2008 sunnybrook equiped with the atwood waterheater. Last summer, when I tried to use it on gas for the first time it wouldn't work in either the gas or electric mode. I took it to the nearest atwood repair facility to get fixed. They said the burner was "filthy dirty" and that caused it to flame out thereby opening up the thermal break in the 12 circut. This killed both the gas and electric function because there is a 12 volt relay in the 120 volt circuit. They charged me $100 to fix it even though it was the first time I had used the heater in the gas mode. Neither atwood, sunnybrook or my dealer would reimburse me because they claimed it was my fault because I "hadn't properly maintained (cleaned) the burner" thereby causing the flameout. I was really ticked because it was a brand new unit and My first two rigs that I had owned for over 10 years, that had the same atwood heater, never had had that problem. This (along with other problems I had with the unit) really soured me on sunnybrook. Anyhow, I'll bet that you have the same sort of problem that I did. For the life of me, I can't understand why atwood wouldn't design their heaters so that the gas and electric modes would work independent of each other. It sounds like a no brainer to me. Sunnytwo, this happened to us also- the simply fix was- check to see that both hot and cold facets are turn Off at the outside shower, we had left them turned on one time and we got no HOT water. When left open cold water goes though both hot and cold lines.
