Laid a 2X4 on the floor for a fulcrum and put another 2X4 on top crosswise sliding it just underneath the slide. Pushed down and the slide went up the necessary amount to take the pressure off the roller. Removed the roller using a right angle screwdriver.

Another option is to put a wood wedge under the slide and bring in the slide just far enough so that it rides up the wedge to allow access to remove the roller(takes two people vs the above can be done by one).
