Bahamabay,

Did you order the rig or buy it off the lot?

If you ordered it was there a 3rd AC option? Also, if you ordered it why didn't you opt for the 15k heat pump versions of the AC's?

Have you ever figured you sq footage and the volumn of you coach and then figured the needed AC requirements.

Newmar can't fix something that isn't broke per si. Upgrading to 15k might help and or adding a 3rd AC maybe your only option.

I have an 02 DSDP 3852 2 slide and actually 39’3” long that came with twin 13,500 heat pumps. My rear AC finally went and I had it replaced with a 15,000 heat pump. On extremely hot days and before this replacement both 13,5’s could not catch up to cool the coach even with night shades pulled and just the windshield drapes pulled. We purchased a 90% block windshield sunscreen which helps tremendously and with the new 15,000 in the bedroom the coach is finally comfortable. With the sunscreen on, the awnings down and the “Day” shades in the front and Night shades in the rear I can usually maintain 73-74 in the front and 70 in the rear. On days approaching 100 it’s more like 76 in the front and 73 in the rear. With all Night shades down, no sunscreen on, curtains pulled and no awnings down I can maintain 79-80 in the front and 75-76 in the rear.

Cooling

All these people that are trying to inprove the cooling know that the windshield fan that blows the air onto the window takes it air at the top on the right side behinde the panel
With my new flat screen I can now drill a hole in the wall and bring the intake tube over and hook it up to the cold air vent
this will help me cool the front?????!!!!

We have a 3910 KSDP with 2 15.5K ac units. We cover the windshield and pull down the night shades, cover the fantastic fan areas ,etc as others have said and then set a high efficiency 9 inch Lakewood fan on the floor between the bath area and the front. It moves the cold air from the bedroom area to the front. We have been pretty comfortable in 100 degree weather.

Living in Southeast Florida and traveling to mostly hot parts of the country, I find the 13.5 front A/C unit to be inadequate. I have two 13.5 units. The rear is able to handle the heat. The front,,,,,no way. This isn't so bad when we are sight seeing, for the day. However, when we are at the coach for the day it is irritating. We have closed the front blinds. Lowered the full front window sun screens. Installed an external front window sun shade. I have shades for the side windows to, but do not like to use them as the coach becomes very dark, even on a bright day. All awnings are fully deployed.

If I ever need to replace the front unit it will be for a larger capacity unit. If I get another coach, it will have larger capacity units.

The front of the coach is usually facing North or East.

I am finding this an interesting topic. I have not used my coach much yet but have already found the two 13.5m's I was told would be plenty, don't seem to be. So much so that I've already been looking into replacing them with 15m's. Out here in expensive Cali, I can get them swapped out for 15m Penguins for about $2,650 total for both. Not cheap, but not the end of the world compared to the cost of the coach in the first place, and if it means comfort or sitting around sweating... Question is, will 15m's do the trick? Would hate to make that swap only to still be dissappointed.

I had trouble controlling the bedroom temp easpecially when the side was in.

It turn out that the heat control was to close to the corner

I moved it out about half way to the door

I now seem to be able to control the back room temp

Of course I have a hole in my wall with a wire running to the heat control

You're looking at about a 10% increase in cooling capacity.

That's not a great amount, and it would be hard to guess if it's going to make that much difference.

I have 2 15m AC's in my rig and if facing west it gets warmer than I would like.

Facing east and adding solar screens makes quite a difference.

For $2600 I think you will be disappointed in the comfort change..Try avoiding facing east or west and use exterior sun screens...I use the Sunguard 92% blocking shade...without it, I couldnt stand the heat east or west...

It’s amazing that most of us here have or have had the same problems when it comes to keeping their coach cool in extremely hot temperatures. My buddy with his Beaver Patriot states he never has a problem… humm.. is this a Newmar thing with poor insulation issues or is my buddy just pulling my chain? As footdoc mentioned an exterior Sunblock screen makes an amazing amount of difference besides allowing to get out of the dungeon effect, as long as our awnings are pulled and the night shades are down in the bedroom. We keep the day shades down in the front of the coach as well.
