A few talked around a key point for me. The front thermostat is in mid cabin. I have found that the cool air from the rear will make the front unit think it is cooler than it really is and run less. If you lower the front temp about 5 degrees you will see a big difference.

I am sitting in south GA in 95+ in an oprn field. The temp is 80 at the windshield lowering back to 74 in the bedroom.

I have always thought about the inadequate cooling of mine...a 43 with 4 slides and a HUGE windshield just NEEDS more than 2 units (30K btu).I have the 92% solar screens on all the front windows, pull awnings avoid facing the sun, etc...barely adequate in south Alabama period! I am in the process of installing new supply vents..they are directional and can be throttled down, so I can direct the flow where I want it....on ME when it's hot...I can also partially close other supply vents to direct the volume where it's needed the most...the bedroom is easy to make cold...I plan to push alot of that cold air up front...I will need to enlarge my ceiling holes from 5.25 in to 6 inches to accomodate these vents... Look at the 8850
I will also need to trim the collar about 1/4 inch....I have tested blocking various supply vents and have never had the unit freeze up..probably because it's a common duct and doesn't obstruct the output...I just wish I had a 3rd unit on it..

I am not sure that you will gain much by shuting off some vents with the design of the Newmar AC Vent system.

Both AC's share a common set of supply ducts. So the front feeds the back when the back AC is off and the back feeds the front when the front AC is off. With both units on the the air flow meet in the middle and cancel each other. This allows max cooling to the vents that supply the front and rear areas.

Have any of you switched the fans to high and not auto. This moves more air but I believe the fans run continuous even if the AC is off.

I have a side hall and this traps a lot of cold air in the bedroom. I set a small fan on the floor in the bedroom to move the cool air to the front. It works for me.

Thanks to everyone for the helpful responses. Bottom line seems to be that the two 13,500 ac units aren't enough to keep the coach cool enough. So far I haven't had much luck with Newmar customer service. The rep has been quite rude and made it very clear Newmar would do nothing about it.

Not knowing how big you rig is and the number of slides, what awnings are installed or if sun screens are installed and what the exit air temp is it kind of hard for me to understand what it is you want Newmar to do.

Now if the exit air temp is below spec then I would expect Newmar, assuming your under warranty, to fix the problem.

As for the rude CSR... Ask to speak to his supervisor or manager.

The bottom line is I think 2 13.5 units on anything longer than 35' is not going to cut it. I have 2 15k units on a 37' and just keeps up. I also don't try to run 72 degrees in 90 to 100 degree temps with no shade... it ain't going to happen.

I did a simple mod I forgot to add....I fixed mine so that when on auto, the fan stays on HIGH only and shuts down with the compressor...that way I dont add back the moisture just removed...and I still think by partially blocking the rear supplies, I can get more directed volume at the front...at least it will be directed to the areas I want with the rotating directional grills instead of very diffused flow that never seems to reach ME!!!

Oemtech, My coach is 2009 Dutch Star, 4 slides, 40', the sun screens are down and all the windows are covered. I do not know what the exit air temp. is but when it was at the local Newmar dealer I was told the the ac units were functioning properly as designed. The shop manager told me he felt the units were too small. What do I want Newmar to do? The coach is 4 weeks old and doesen't get cool. I would like Newmar to make it so that it does get cool.

I believe it's an obvious design flaw/cost cutting effort....Mine is 43 ft and now even the newer lower level Dutch Star 43s have 3 units...is their insulation worse (maybe??) or is Newmar realizing that 2 units dont cut it and they are tired of complaints??? I would love to add a 3rd unit but retrofitting would probably be VERY expensive!!
