Just returned from a trip from Upstate NY to Central PA, driving thru the rolling hills of both PA and NY, round trip.

With the fuel prices scratching $5.00, I chose to 'baby' the coach, driving between 60 - 62 mph in the 65 mph zones, and kept it at 55 mph in the 55 mph speed zones. Mostly 4 lane, but a lot of hills and valleys.

Kept the transmission in the 'Economy' mode, where it does best in this type of terrain.

Round trip over 350 miles, I averaged 9.5 mpg (not towing).

Something to be said about slowing down.

Don, that sounds real good. At least 1 mpg for slowing down. I wonder what I'd get without the toad, I'm always taking it with us. Now that we have the MC lift I can leave the car home during the summer. I get 8 - 8.5 mpg. towing.

Hi Pusherman,
We have the 350 horse CAT and tow an automatic Saturn Vue. The Saturn's manual states that we can't tow it over 65mph so we keep the speed down to about 60 or 64 mph. Between 55 and 60 we are getting 9.5 to 10 mpg with flat driving or smaller hill climbing. With many steep up and downers we would get from the high 7's to the mid to high 8's mpg. It sure is a HECK of a lot better than the gasser millage!
