I'm always willing to try something new. I bought the Thermoil "De-mister" and "De-sulfate" for my batteries. I'm really big on keeping the battery compartment clean. I've been using the Permatex spray for the cable connections and everything metal in the battery bay. All the metal connections have stayed cleaned, but the battery hold down plates on the floor of the bay keep getting a build up.

I bought the "De-Sulfate" to keep sulfation down. It took three bottles. A half bottle in each battery ( 2 x 12 volt and 4 x 6 volt). The "De-mister" (oil) required 6 bottles. One per battery.

My batteries were topped off and I had to remove about 55 ounces of battery acid from the six batteries to put the two new products in.

Thermoil guaruntees that there product will eliminate all battery gas and corrosion. I cleaned the batteries and compartment thoroughly when I was finished and then towel dried everything.

I'll be watching the battery compartment for the next few months and see how it works. We have a 2500 mile/three week trip coming up in a month where we'll meet up with SacsTC and MonacoMama at the Sweet Home Concert. There will be several days of boondocking on and off over the three weeks. Thermoil also claims your batteries will last longer and hold a better charge.....we'll see.

Hi Don,
I have to tell you, you've got to be the all time battery and compartment enthusiast. I'll look to you if I have any problemes in that department. So tell me, where do you put all of that used battery acid? Does the local dump handle that along with paint and whatnot?

AKBrick.....Thermoil had a good suggestion. I put the excess acid back in their bottles. I put one in my plastic basket in the battery compartment along with the other chemicals. They recommend using it to top off the batteries if necessary.

I gave two others to my brother-in-law for his coach.

I have two left that I will take to the local recycle day.

That's a good idea about keeping some for the batteries. Keeping some for recycle day, and then giving some to your brother. Gee I was wondering if you can use it in leu of friendship bread? Okay, sorry, that was uncalled for. CheetahGirl is going to get me for that one. Roll Eyes Wink

Now that causes a man to stop and re-think Thermoil. Sell you a product guaranteed to stop electrolyte loss, then tell you to keep some excess electrolyte just-in-case you need to add some??????? Big Hand

I changed out my battery cap's to Water Miser Battery Caps 4 years ago. I've rarely had to add water, and they've completely eliminated corrosion. I do clean the battery compartment, but so far it's just been dust buildup. I also keep the battery connections sprayed with Permatex.

Where did you get your Thermoil?

A friend had the Thermoil batteries in his 1999 Dolphin and has never had a lick of trouble or corrosion. Though, it reduces, but does not totally eliminate the need to add distilled water from time to time.

The suggestion to use excess battery acid to top off the batteries is not a good one. The loss of battery fluid is via evaporation, which is only the water part of the sulfuric acid solution in the battery. That is why distilled water is the only thing that should be used for "topping off". If you use battery acid rather than distilled water, you will be increasing the concentration of the sulfuric acid, and adversely affecting the battery's chemistry.

I hope you are also aware that the use of thermoil or any other additive other than distilled water, will void any warranty remaining on the batteries.
