Joe, I believe that if you don't go in and threaten them with lawsuits, attorneys, warrantee etc., they would be willing to exchange your fluid with TranSynd synthetic fluid. Tell them that Workhorse has concured that the fluid installed was the wrong type. I wouldn't worry about getting some type of extended warrantee...there is no way the Dextron VI hurt the transmission. Smile

There are some on here that changed their transmission fluids out to off the shelf Mobil 1 transmission fluid (not TES 295 approved) and their transmissions are running fine.

FrontRangeRVer, I am going to go easy to start with. If they are willing to change the fluid and filter (excess fluid expense cost paid by me as if they had done it right the first time) and then change the filter and fluid the second time on them, I will be a happy camper,
Joe

It's a shame this happened. It's so typical for them to worry about the extra cost of the oil that they should have put in it in the first place and their $100 per hr mechanic.
What is your rental rate for you and your MH driving back and forth to their dealership and waiting around while they correct their mistake? Twice
Or are they coming to you to fix it?
Why is their time so valuable and our time is worthless in their eyes?
That sux. You pay to get something done and all you get is headaches and worries.

Max, the time isn't an issue for me fortunately. The Workhorse service is about 6 miles from my home and they will pick me up or bring me back.

The costs associated with the oil are going to be addressed tomorrow. I will have more to report then. I am hoping they are willing to step up big. I will let you know.

Frontrangerver: Sorry, but I think you are wrong on that one. Allison issued a "WATCH" bulletin(#360, Rev.A ) which states, among other things : "In order to be completely compatible with Dexron-VI fluids, Allison transmission seal and O-ring materials are being changed. Allison 1000,2000,3000,and 4000 Product Families transmissions will have a serial number breakpoint established for the approved use of Dexron-VI." and "Dexron-VI usage in units manufactured prior to these breakpoints is strictly prohibited by Allison Transmission."

So, unless an owner has specific info stating that his tranny is one equipped with the new seals and O-rings which allow the use of Dexron-VI, he should use either old stock Dexron-III or switch to TranSynd. ED

Thanks for that Ed. I wish I had known for sure about the fluid, although I didn't feel that the service center gave me any credence when I mentioned compatibility. My hope is that it doesn't cause any thing to happen "down the road". I am going to contact Allison TEch again and see what they think.

I would love to see a chemical engineer or chemist tell me just why Transynd will not do harm to a tranny whilst the other fluids will, BY DEFINITION, cause failure. Especially if only present in trace amounts.

I can't answer that technically, but here is what I was told by Allison Technical: Over time the Dexron VI will cause the seals to harden, which will cause leaks. The tranny isn't mechanically damaged, but the seals are now leaking and that is a form of damage. Hamguy, if you are expecting a catastrophic form of damage, then that isn't likely.
The cost to R&R a tranny to fix leaking seals would be where the personal damage would occur! Smile

For years, Harley-Davidson was adamant that their engines could only use ‘dino’ motor oil, and any synthetic oil was cause to void your warranty. Their argument was that all synthetic oils were 'too slippery'. Except a few years ago, Harley came out with it’s own Syn3 synthetic oil and amazingly, it’s approved by H-D, though everyone else’s is not… I’m sure it has nothing to do with ‘profits’ selling their own labeled motor oils… it's hard to know who to believe sometimes when it comes to oils...
