Paul I hope you have reported these instances to the department of weights and measures or what ever department oversees this consumer ripoff. A 10% shortage in measureing fuel is not a minor infraction

Paul;

The State Inspector came in to our station the other day to investigate a claim like yours. He found nothing wrong. The state seals pumps when they check them. They look for seal tampering.

He told me that do to the price of motor fuel he was kept busy with complaints. He said over 90% of the pumps were with in tolerance and more were over than short. As a meter wears it tends to go over a little.

I asked why gallons were more than tank sizes on his complaints. He told me that tank sizes are approximate and depending how long the fill tube was could add a couple of gallons it self.

Blue Ribbon, I live in Co and have been scared to try any where near 15% grades. Maybe it could do it , but it would be pretty precarious and embarassing if it could'nt. Are you sure these roads are 15+ % and are they long pulls, straight or twisty and can you get a drive at it?
There lots of places , I've found that I'd like to camp at but am scared the MoHo might not be able to handle going up or possibly no down it either.
I figure if I need first gear , in a car, and still have to ride the brakes, I have to wonder how the RV could handle this.
Do other people take their Mh's on 10+ % grades? One problem here is, they only mark the grade percentage on major highways.
Has anyone took their MH up above Central City, Co, for example?
Oh BTW, if our rigs weigh the same, we drive the same roads under the same conditions, we'll all get about the same gas mileage.
I can get 9+ MPG going down the mountain and 4 or 5 MPG going the other way.
I'm not organized enough to figure the mileage , long term; besides it makes me feel better to just believe the Actia which often says I'm averaging 14 or 17 MPG

I get 9mpg or better as long as I stay at 1850rpm while going 51mph and pull nothing. We've been out west climbing mountains for about a month and I'm sure we we're no where near that figure. Presently on the high plains heading east, so things should improve now.

DIESEL.. top tier gas is formulated to the major manufactures specifications. it has the proper amount of detergents among other things. it comes in all octane grades. not all gasoline is top tier rated. it will be stated on the pump if it is top tier. google "top tier" for more info.

Come on Gentlemen. Read my first post. I said I got the poor milage on very very flat ground. I said previously had pulled a 15% grade with no real problems. I do drive 60 MPH or less. I drive with a raw egg between my foot and gas peddle (expression for tender gas foot.)

My orginal posting was asking what I might look for for poor milage. (On the average, for the past 4000 miles it has been about 6.8 - I haven't put the calculator to it.) If you have a sound suggestion, I'd appreciate it.

BTW, I calculate mileage EVERY time I fill my tank completely.

Interesting. On the one hand you say you calculate mileage every time you fill completely and on the other you say you haven't calculated the mileage.

Why don't you calculate what the mileage actually is. 4K miles is certainly enough to get a good reading. Then, perhaps we can find out. BTW, I fill completely each time.

Bill,

I noticed you are from Maryland also. Both my wife and I have noticed that our MPG in our jeeps and our MH has dropped since last spring. My way of thinking is it has to do with gas formula here in Maryland, clean air type gas, more Ethinol(sp). Have you tried getting your gas from another state?

I think if you read all of the responses, you will realize what everyone is saying is that you don't really get poor mileage.

However, if you want a suggestion for some possible improvement, try the UltraPower upgrade.

Blue Ribbon....I think that just sometimes you will get bad mileage. We just got back from an 1,800 mile trip and got 6.52 mpg average (with toad), and that is with the Ultrapower (never got more MPG with the Ultrapower after the install) and new wires. I drove 62-64 mph. I was getting 7.6 mpg last year, so for some reason, I am now getting less mpg. Frown

I do know that our exhaust pipes are VERY black with soot, and the soot is also on the outside edge of the pipes.....
