Ok Guys desperate for some help

We live in the UK so service is limited, we have a 2001 Damon Daybreak Workhorse Chassis P32 8.1 Vortec.

We had a problem starting the engine, the engine would start but not run kept stopping as soon as you released the key, tracked it down to the multi block connector on the ignition switch located on the steering column, we have now installed the service kit W8002060 that diverts the power away from the switch to stop it over heating, it now starts intermittently, turn the key nothing the new relay operates, the ignition switch is moved by the metal rod, we do hear a clicking form the battery disconnect centre under the hood, try it a few times then it bursts into life and all works turn it on and off a few times it still works, leave it a few minutes and again nothing no dash lights engine wont start, is there anything like a relay in the battery disconnect centre that is part of the ignition circuit, as I have said we do hear a clicking when we turn the key behind the battery disconect centre.

Many thanks

Derek

Hi Jeff

I did install a new ignition switch as the old one had burn marks on it.

Hi Derek! The one thing that comes to mind after you said that you replaced the ignition switch is the switch adjustment. Did you know that the switch has slots that will allow you to move it closer or further away from the key? It sounds to me that the rod isn't pushing the switch far enough to engage the starter. If you can move the switch just a little closer to the key it may work.

Hi Chandler

We have adjusted the the switch a number of times, it is hard to track the problem down as it is intermittent, will have another look at the weekend as RV is stored away from home.

Regards

Derek

first, make sure the tranny is in park. then jumper the tranny park switch and see if that helps.

I take it that the tranny park switch is the one that is bolted on to the ignition switch with the metal rod in one end of it, can you explain how I would jumper the switch !!!

Hi Derek...I believe the transmission switch is on the transmission..or rather, in the transmission. I could be wrong...You have a Workhorse chassis so you could check with the Workhorse boys on the irv2 Workhorse site.

I still think it's in your ignition switch. I say this because you have no dash lights. If it was the neutral switch, you would have lights but no starter. The fact that it comes to life after you try it several times tells me that it is a bad connection. Now it's possible the connection is in a relay as you suggested but I would look hard at the ignition switch.

The RV problem is now fixed, the engine immobliser need to be reset as we had disconnected the ignition switch, this made the engine immobliser lock up as if someone had been trying to nick the RV! Once the engine battery had been disconnected and reconnected the problem had been fixed
