Damaged Wire

I have placed a picture of a damaged wire that was on #5 in the Workhorse photos.
I agree Bigdaddy, I am happy with the chassie. I hope they solve the problem and own up to it.

Great shot of the problem! I best that I can remember, mine are a straight connection. After looking at the photo, I wonder if the failure is due to improper contact with the center conductor of the lead wire and the stab on the spark plug? I can see in the photo that the lettering is still on the lead wire and not burnt off. I think if it were a heat problem, the lettering would be burnt off. What do others think???

The way I read it, I don't think Charles99 had a "heat" problem with his plug wire. He was checking all the plug wires for good seating and found when he removed #5, it came apart. -At least that's what I thought I read on page 4 of this thread.

Well folks I give up... I bought a Monaco Diplomat with a 400HP Cummings pusher to take care of the problem. Its disapointing to be caught between workhorse and Itaska. I still think the Workhorse is a good builder but this problem is something GM or someone should take care of and fast. By the way its not just a RV problem, local NAPA store said about all 496 have the trouble.

Blyski signing off, good luck all...

Well on a trip back from a local lake yesterday I had a new problem associated with the heat on the left side. The electrical connector that attaches to #7 coil broke and two wires to a sensor on the fuel rail broke, all due to heat stress. I will have to put it in the shop this week.
I have lost four wires on # 5 cylinder. I know it is not a bad connection on my part. That was my first thought. I am an electrician by craft, so I have some experience in this area.
I figured I would have more heat stress problems around that area. My worst fear is the fuel line, it is real close to # 7 cylinder.
I agree with Blyski. I plan to look at a few diesels.

We have 2001 Itasca Sunrise 8.1. Yes, we had #5 wire burn up repeatedly. Workhorse said, no air flow due to design of coach. Winnebago said, Workhorse problem. Solved problem with Banks System, Dec. 2002. 24,000 miles later, same wires, no problem.

Ok,
I have the W22 with the 8.1L (Mountain Aire) and have had no problem in 16.5k, keeping my fingers crossed. Seems strange though that a 3.8L Supercharged or 5L engine can be transverse mounted in an engine compartment that barely fits the engine and an air intake area of less than two square feet and NEVER have a problem like this. I would like to hear some cylinder head temps to go along with this thread. Any aircraft A&Ps out there?

Just curious,
Charlie

CharlieM,
Here are some temps that I got after installing Taylor wires and insulators from NAPA. I have driven about 10,000 miles with the new wires and insulators and have had no problems. (knock on wood)The Taylor wires were about $70.00 and the 8 insulators were about $70.00.
quote:
I purchased a therometer with a long lead and inserted the lead inbetween the #5 spark plug wire and the insulator to monitor the temperature.
Going down the road the hottest temp. has been about 176 degrees and about 250 when I stop.

So... between the air vent kit, new wires and insulators maybe my problem is solved.
