I have a 2008 Four Winds Siesta on an E-450 Ford. I am unable to turn on the ignition. It is like the generator was still running. Previously I wasn't able to turn the key on when the generator was running. Is there an interlock to prevent turning on the ignition when the generator is running? In my older class A motor home it was possible to run the generator while driving.

What happened was I was running my generator to use the A/C and the A/C quit. I tried to turn the A/C off to see if it would reset. It did not reset. I then shut the generator off and then tried to move the motor home. I haven't been able to turn on the ignition since. I turned the generator on and back off but still no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions to what I can try to get the key back to work?

I'm not sure if this is even applicable to your MH chassis, but could it possibly be the steering column lock is in a bind? Try turning the steering column real hard in either direction while simultaneously attempting to turn the ignition switch to see if that frees it up.

Good luck, if this isn't the solution I'm sure others will jump in with additional suggestions.

I don't think there is any connection between the generator and the steering column or ignition key. Certainly nothing that would physically prevent you from turning the key.

My guess is that either the shift lever is not in Park or Neutral (there is an interlock for that) or that something has failed mechanically inside the steering column.

It appears the steering column lock was in a bind. I was able to get it working after turning the steering wheel HARD left and right.

Thanks for the suggestions, it worked.

In SF , California, on those hilly streets , you are very pleased that they have steering wheel column lock that binds , this is a safety plus to keep kids from putting in a key and rolling down the hill into traffic Also works on curbs great for against the curb when you vehicle is pointing downward.
