What is the easiest way to take out just a quart of tranny fluid? It just reads a quart over on the dip stick. I am having a small puddle (half dollar size just after stopping) but nothing significant. No major mess under the carriage. I just want to get it to the correct reading.

I tried removing some of the transmission fluid via the dipstick tube, and the only thing I could find which would do it was a 'suction pump' like a giant syringe and a complicated multi valve lashup to get the fluid to the syringe and keep it there while pushing the plunger back so it would actually remove some fluid.

I saw a 'power fluid remover' at Harbor Freight which might be a more practical solution, but may not be cost effective.

We once had a device for removing motor oil via the dipstick tube on a boat with a GM V6 motor. It was a small pump with clear tubing for both suction and discharge. It was operated by attaching an electric or battery drill to the pump shaft. You might want to check with a boat store.

I tried the drill powered pump, it didn't have the oomph to get the fluid all the way up the dipstick.

Dunnpe: I agree with SacsTC, replace the filter...or dump fluid out of filter (SAVE THE MAGNET).
I think you have the 1000 Tranny, filter may not be a full quart.

I agree with what others have said about the external filter - remove it, dump it out, and replace it (make sure the magnet is in place). Then drive until warmed up, re-check the fluid level, and repeat if necessary. I think the external filter capacity is more like a pint than a quart.

thanks to all who have responded. I will be removing and draining the small filter until I obtain the correct level.

This site and the people are outstanding and helpful.

Don't drive far with an A/T overfull. That is an excellent way to cause future problems.
