We're looking at Revolution 42n's. One a 2008 Cummins one a 2007 Catipillar, both have the same horsepower. The cummins has 50 more torque, it also has is equipped with the new emission requirements. I would like to hear your thoughts on the two, pros and cons, mpg, maint etc.

Both Cummins and CAT make a good engine and seem to stand behind them. Floor plan and ammenities is more important to us.

I would look into the cost to maintain each engine. I think the 2008 would cost more as there is more to do. jmo

You may find that the maintenance intervals on the Cat are greater than on the Cummins. As far as the 2008 Cummins engine goes the new exhaust system, it does not have to be serviced til around 150k miles.

1Coyote, I understand that the new C7's emission control system called "ACERT" is more effective than the Cummins system.

Cummins will have lower maintenance cost if your a high mileage driver i.e 20,000 miles oil change on ISL vs CAT C7 either 11,000 (18L) or 15,000 (26L). Otherwise the annual changes would make them equal on oil change and filters. Cummins needs no overhead adjustment until 150,000 miles vs ~11,000 (?) on CAT. The DPF is warranted for 200,000-400,000 miles. Coalescing filter change 2 yrs or 80,000 miles.
