Okay, don't beat me too hard but I just want to know if anyone has installed the diesel power module?

http://dieselpowermodule.com/diesel_power_module.htm
I have an ISL 400 06 vintage and would just like more fuel mileage. I certainly don't need any more power or speed. Is this thing helpful?

Dennis,

The claims of milage improvement look impressive. It appears to be a DR Chip. I would be interested in knowing about any hands on experience as well.

I have a trip coming up with which the module would pay for it self with a 10% fuel economy increase. I get about 7.2 MPG now with an ISL 400

Would they garantee this kind of performance improvement

Harry,
I am also ready to start a 5,000 trip across 25 states and would be interested. So far I have not found someone that has installed it.

Dennis,

You might try posting it in the Class A and the WInnebago forum as well. The question will get broader exposure that way.

As I understand Federal law governing this issue, none, unless Cummins or Allison are able to prove that damage was caused by equipment changes not native to Cummins or Allisson. Than it will void your warranty.

A gentle reminder that multiple posts are not allowed as following more than 1 thread on the same topic is too difficult.

Moderators can link a thread to another forum if needed.

Thanks.

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act is the law cited for preventing an OEM from voiding a warranty based on an after market add on.

When a problem arises, the catch is, the OEM and the after market vendor can blame each other and the owner is left in the middle.

Thanks. I wasn't aware of that rule and it makes sense. Now I understand why some people have asked a moderator to link a thread to other forums.

There is a slogan that is used on another popular Cummins diesel web site. When you choose to alter or modify your engine with power mods, "I am my own warranty station". That pretty much covers it. It kinda comes down to if your lawyers can beat up their lawyers. When you are talking 8 to 10K for a new motor, there would be lots of red tape. Not that modifying your rig is wrong, just fully understand the ramifications.

I understand that Cummins sells software to increase the HP of it's engines. Very pricey and will not cover it under the original warranty. I have always been amazed at take for instance the ISB 6.7 series. It comes in many HP varieties, I bet the "engine" proper is exactly the same it is just the "tune". I read somewhere you can get about 50 more HP out of a 300 ISB with the Cummins software for 2200 bucks, about or near the same price of getting the larger output to begin with.

Cummins will increase the HP of your engine if it's not already at the max.

It can be pricey as the high price DOES include a warranty upgrade.

The higher the HP, the greater the stress is on the engine and the greater the possibility of engine problems or shorter engine life.

Cummins has many different HP ratings for their engines.

The more severe the duty of an engine, the lower the HP rating.

RV engines are the lightest duty, therefore they get the highest HP ratings

This is not entirely correct. The Act merely precludes a manufacturer's voiding a warranty if a product other than an OEM replacement part is used. Originating to address a specific issue in the Automotive Industry, it has since been applied to many other industries.

To the best of my knowledge, it does not include aftermarket products that modify or impact performance, longevity, component stress or add-on items not offered by a product's OEM.
