Getting a check engine light only 1850 miles. Gosh, I hate to take it in to Cummins and leave it for a week or more to have it cleared. Any ideas what it might be.

The same thing happened to moine with less than 2000 miles on it. I had not accepted the motor home from yhr dealer yet so refused to take delivery until fixed. The dealer took it to Cummins service center. They said they replaced a coolant level alarm switch which is what most "check engine lights" problems were.

Like h moffitt posted, check your coolant level in the tank. Do not go by the sight glass. Find something and stick down into the tank to see where the coolant level really is.

Time for a VMSpc commercial again.
There is a package that runs on a PC that ties into the diagnostic port on your chassis and captures all of the error codes that occur. Unlike mine, I suspect it would cover your transmission as well as your engine and all of the chassis sensors. I would expect any check engine light to have set a code which could confirm that it was a coolant sensor - or not. I've had two separate problems where capturing the error at the time that it occurred allowed me to fix it quickly. Some of the OBDII readers are $150-200. VMSpc is about double that but it provides a lot more benefits than just a code reader. Try http://www.silverleafelectronics.com/ This message has been edited. I've had this happen twice. Both times it was the egr valve. It has been replaced 3x and I only have 19k on it. Mine is the 2007 ISM 500hp engine.

Mine is at the Freightliner/Cummins dealer now. I will post the outcome when it gets back.

Not to hijack this thread but does VMSpec also monitor EGT? It would be a huge benefit to know what the error code is and possibly save time and money. mark Dawn and Mark 06 HR Endeavor 40 PET 05 Taco Pusher Molly and Cassie - the little buddies |

I have a similar problem. The check engine light comes on after about 5 min on the road. If I can't get over to the side quickly, it stops ringing and the light goes out. Then it doesn't do it again until the next day's travel. When I did the dash diagnostics, it gave me the code MID 128. When I call Spartan, they had a code 127 and 129 but no 128. I called Cummins who said they would probably get even a different code. Cummins also said that if I don't the the stop engine light come on not to worry about it until I could get the check engine code checked out.
One note. This didn't happen until after we were in altitude in Colorado, AND we had been to Spartan in Charlotte, MI for a hydrolic fluid change just a couple of weeks before. Got it back. Cummins said it was a "chaffed" wire going into the ECM. At least it was nothing serious.
