I have been seriously thinking about adding the Banks Stinger Kit (AFAIK, the only one available for my vintage engine). It is supposed to boost the HP to 350 and the torque from 800 ft/lbs to around either 975 or 1015...I can't remember.
Ken,
I'm surprised that the C8.3 engine was only rated at 275HP. I thought that would have been the C5.9 engine, or the ISB 5.9L engine.
I had a '99 Discovery with the ISB 5.9L engine. I know it's not the same engine, but it was also rated at 275HP. I added a Banks PowerPack TLC kit, and was extremely pleased with the results.
You can read more on my old Discovery web site. Be sure to note my actual "before and after" test results. The stinger kit does not include the larger air intake, which I think made a significant difference. But I think the stinger kit alone was supposed to give you at least 2/3 of the improved performance of the entire PowerPack kit.
I had a 98 Dutch Star with the C8.3. It has the Bosch P7100 injection pump. I installed the TST #10 plate in it, and a slightly larger turbo. The rule of thumb on this engine is 15 hp/lb of boost. The mod raised the boost from 20 psi to 30 psi. It made a significant improvement in pulling. It was fine in EGT, until I got to 7,000 ft elev. Then I'd have to manage the EGTs with the right foot.
