I have a 2007 Damon Astoria purchased last August. It has a 5 speed Allison transmisson.

This morning after warming the MH up for approx. 5 minutes when he attempted to shift it into Drive, it blew a fuse.

Upon investigating he found that a 7 1/2 amp fuse was where a 10 amp should be.

He replaced it with a 10 amp, also blew.

He then put in a 15 amp, much to my protest, and it shifted fine.

We have used it 7 times since we bought it and have never had a problem before.
It was last started 12 days ago, and moved without a problem.

I live in NY so it has been cold here with some wind chill factors.

Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

Also the inside of the fuse box cover diagram appears to be a "mirror image" of actual fuse placement. But not all fuses are as shown on diagram. Whats up with that??

Thanks, Sue

Is the fuse that blew labeled?

Did the fuse blow when applying the brake before shifting or when actually shifting?

Hi Route66..
It shorted out when applying break to shift.

He did make an appt. to have it looked into next week, and upon my insistance called the Allison help line.

Both the repair place, and allisons said it might be a crossed wire in the back of the fuse board.

Not sure why that just happened now, and not before, but what do I know.
Thanks for replying,
Sue

I was wondering if it was related to the brake lights or the transmission.

Let us know what the problem was.

IF these are wired similar to cars/trucks, it could be an intermittent short in the brake light switch. I am not sure how the Allisons compare but I have had this problem before.

If everything else is o.k. (lighting wires/circuits, good grounds etc.) and nothing else changed, was moved, "fixed" etc., then I vote for the switch. Electrical parts either work or they don't. If it was working fine and now isn't, either the part finally failed or a connection did. If it is a "crossed wire" in the back of the "board", is it due to poor installation and rubbing?

These things (like tractors) are notorious for dubious grounding of electrical wires. Picture seven, yes seven ground wires lightly crimped with their own solderless eyelets all stacked on top of one another with one little 22GA ground wire running to the frame and the rest of the eyelets screwed to a piece of plywood subflooring... Roll Eyes

Sorry I am not more help.

Thanks for the input quikduk....makes sense what you are saying. Tomorrow we are taking it to be looked at. I'll let everyone know what the outcome is.
Hope its not wires that are going to start rubbing!

Sue,

I used to have a 1966 Buick, everytime I stepped on the break to stop it would blow a fuse and my stop lights would quit but my wipers would come on.

I joked about putting a sign in the back window that would read "If my wipers are going and the sun is shining then I am stopping".

Instead I pulled the fuse block from the firewall and found just that, the wires from the wipers had bent over over time and made contact with the brake light circuit. A piece of cardboard between the 2 curcuits fixed the problem.

Thanks for the response KC1BUD......
we did get it looked at and indeed faulty wires were the culprit.
But good idea about the cardboard, you just never know.
