Has anyone had any experience with replacing the rear duals with the Michelin 445/50R22.5 X-One XRV tires? Has anyone seen these tires on anyones rig or any truck or trailer?

I have only seen them on the fronts of trucks that carry such heavy loads that they would require duals on the steer axel such as large cement mixers. Some feel that on the drive axel you give up the safety factor of having the second tire to help you through a rear blowout when you use the X-One XRV tires instead of duals. The only one I've seen was a Discovery with them on the rear. The driver was at the time the president of the Freightliner RV Club and was in a test program with Michelin since he was doing many miles/year.

Recently saw many many semis and trailers in Europe using those in place of dual wheeled axles. Did not see any on bus type vehicles.

I'm on the list with Michelin to be part of their test program. Should receive the new tires and rims (provided by Michelin) in 2-3 weeks. I'm interested to see how they will ride as compared to the duals. I'll keep you posted on what I think.

Thank you Route 66. Looks like Michelin is trying to make a major move into the RV market with these tires by putting them out were more RVers can see them.

My question is: will the bead in the center on the tread be broken when the tires are driven over rutted roads - rutted by dulies on hot asphalt ie. logging trucks?

There a lot of those tires on the road now, on trucks, and it doesn't seem to be a problem. We look forward to Jim's report. __________________________ Adios, Dirk '07 Dutch Star 4029, '08 Yukon XL Escapees 64797, NKK 17897-L, FMCA 382762, Telephone Pioneers, ATA Navigation by Ouija Board My Current Location My DSDP |

hi, I have had these tires (x-1) for over 500000miles on two tractor trailers, on drive and trailer and they have been great. They ride smoother and quieter loaded or empty, no worries about equalising tire pressures. They are lighter than duals and reduce your unsprung wieght. They will not come off if they go flat or blow out, I know one person that had a blow out and he said it was no problem.
I carry a plug kit and have an air supply on two occasions I have pluged the tire and they went on to last as long as the others. I gained about 1/2mpg on average. The only downside is you cannot limp it in on one tire, but that has not been a problem in over 4 years for me. I have been very happy with these tires andy |
