We will be taking off on a two – three month trip across the USA soon and I am wanting to add Sat TV capability to our MH before doing so (actually it is at my wife's insistence). The rigs is pre-wired for a roof mounted dish and receiver. I would appreciate input on the + & -˜s experienced with service from both DirectTV and the Dish Network (I.E. coverage, up time, customer service, etc.). Roof mounted vs. freestanding dish. Also, Dish Network offers "DISH 322 features two tuners for independent satellite TV viewing on two separate televisions (one IR and one UHF remote), all in a slim-line chassis design." This would seem to be great for a MH since there is really only one location for a receiver, but multiple TV's. Has anyone had any experience with one of these twin tuner receivers in a MH?

WE have been with Direct TV for about five years before we went full time two years ago. Had a Winegard crank up installed when we purchased the rig. All Winegards have dual LNB's. While our rig ws wired for a dish, it was only wired for (1) receiver, so the dealer had to run another wire back to the BR area for the second reciever.
Everything works fine except that Direct dropped PBS.

As Kayo has said most rvs are only wiredd for a single reciever. We too have been on Direct TV for about 5 years. We have had good service and I believe the sateliites are in a higher orbit which should make being block by obsticles more difficult than with Dish. You will also want to be able to connect a free standing dish up as in the east you can get into areas with a lot of trees and you may not be able to use a roof mounted dish where you would be parked and have to locate dish away from coach. I have no experience with the new twin reciever but it does sound like the cat's meow for an rv.

We have "Dish Network" and the main trouble I would forsee is you have to set the "skew" on the dish. This entails loosening the actual dish and turning it a few degrees on it's mount. This would be a "pain" with a roof mounted dish. We finally got used to doing it, on the ground. We had Direct TV, at first, but were told we could get our "home channels" with D/N (didn't happen!). We have a Winegard dome with auto-tracking, and we use Dish network.
The Winegard will automatically find both satellites; it changes the 'skew' by itself. No need to climb onto the roof.
Except that every couple of months I put RainX on the dome.
Occasionally we are parked where the dome is blocked, so I have a spare tri-pod dish that I pull out and plug into the cable TV jack.

I had DirecTV for nine years a loved it. When we moved from California to Wyoming DirecTV would not give us ABC because the local station 200 miles away would not give us a waver. So I changed over to Dish Network. All I can say is I completely dislike it. I am hoping after the middle of this year, some things are supposed to change with Satellite TV, and I'm hoping DirecTV can give us ABC. If so I'm going back to DirecTV. It may be I got used to the way things were done on DirecTV but Dish network just isn't pleasant to use at all. I do have to admit I like getting UPN and the WB and DirecTV did not offer it, but I can live with out those since UPN has dropped Star Trek Enterprise.

So after this long dissertation, GET DirecTV and you will be happy.

I'm confused by the statement"all Wingards have dual LNBs". I'm in the process of finding a dish for my FIL's new Class C, and after looking at http://www.winegard.com/ , All I see are single LNB dishes. Please direct me to the information that they all have dual LNBs - it would help a lot.

We have Dish,when we are at home we have Dish 500 but on the road I have the regular E coast feed(New York) and the reg W coast feed which is Los Angeles, these channels are all on sat 119 so only need the reg Wineguard dish which has one head. We have a portable which is dual for both sats but is a pain to set up.Dish sats are low on the horizon which can be a prob when in trees. I just ask for an open site. Good Luck

Actually, what he meant was "dual output LNBs". There is a single LNB with 2 outputs to feed either 2 separate receivers or a 2x4 multiswitch. I haven't seen any roof-mounted dishes with more than one LNB.

Either service uses the same satelittes so the "lower and etc. are not the issue. I suggest you contact Winegard to get the information. Our coach was wired from the factory to allow two sets to be connected to the same same satelitte signal. Your use of two tuners will require some additional wiring. The commentary about being blocked by obstructions for a roof mount is accurate if your site is blocked by trees. When yoou sign up for either service, fill out a RV waiver so that you can get the certain feeds. Neither service is permited by FCC rules to allow you to get your local stations feed further than about 130 miles from home (spot beaming). Good Luck
