Here is a head scratcher for the plumbing experts. In the last few weeks I have developed an audible "buzzing" noise coming from the waterheater. It is only present when the hot water is on, and occurrs when on pump or city water. I pulled off the access panel off the bottom and had the DW turn the water faucet off an on to trace the sound.
It kinds sounds like the noise a hose would make if you tried to bend it in half and kink it under high pressure. I looked at all the water lines running to and from the heater, all are smoothly curved and no obstructions were observed. A few days ago I pulled the nylon plug and emptied and flushed the tank thinking that it may be clogged with something. No evidence of calcium came out at all. I even had the DW turn off the electric element to see if that was causing the buzz. No change. I'm kinda stumped. Anyone else ever have this happen to them? The waterheater is an Atwood ten gallon dual heat model with heat exchanger. All lines look to be in good repair. The only thing I could come up with was to drain the tank, and pull the hot water outlet off of the back and try to insert a probe into the opening to see if it is clogged with anything. What do you guys think?? Sarge Marty and Diane, Fulltiming! Had the same problem, was check valve on incoming line to heater. Spring gets loose and causes buzzing noise.

Thanks Bryan, was the top or bottom line the incoming line? Was the valve installed in the line or actually screwed into the tank?

I beleive bottom line was incoming cold.Would have to look at manuel to confirm. Valve is on end of line as it enters tank, just remove access panel from rear of tank. Was told the valve was only necessary for winterization, I just removed spring and internal parts, since I don't plan on being anywhere I need to worry about freezing, haven't had any problems in a year.
