We have carried an unmounted spare for the past 18 months since replacing two tires and I kept the good one for a spare. It would get us off the side of the road if there was no similar new tire available locally. I do have mixed feelings about carrying it due to weight, space, and the tire aging it's life away to the point that some day it would not be wise to use it.

I have CoachNet, also, great service. Weight being critical, I think I'll go with the unmounted spare tire. I'll avoid Baja, like "steelhead" says. I agree with "AFChap," an aging tire is not a great answer, but once changed, it may at least get you off the road and to the nearest park, where you can then assess your next move in a safer environment.

My thanks to everyone who responded. Travel safe, but travel. See ya on the road.
