Amazing how my truck is now worth near nothing for trade in, these dealers know when they have you over a barrel! The Kodiak looks very interesting just wonder if the camper is permenatelly mounted onto it.

A 2007/2008 Ford F350 DRW will safely carry that load with minimal suspension mode.

Paul

The person you speak of- could be at 4700 lbs ( if you prescribe to 1000 lbs of persons and gear ) Do you believe 1000 lbs of persons and gear??

I personally have not weighed my gear and my wife will not tell me how much she weighs and even if I knew I certainly would not post!

At 3700 lbs dry is that not heavy- even with Rickson's ?? I ask the question because I do not know nor do I want to be a weight cop.

Well guys I found a great deal on an 07 Chevy 3500 dually with 19.5 tires and rims on it already and 7000 miles on the clock. The rims are not Ricksons there Eagles but overall a nice truck at a reasonable price and I accepted the loss on the trade of my 2500 and bought it. Just couldnt live with the idea of being severly over loaded, peace of mind can come at a high cost lol

Congrats on your new truck Tonto57. I was in the same boat as you back in 2000 and traded my single rear wheel truck for a dually to better handle the camper weight. The big issue for me was that the camper would overload the highest rated rear tires that were available. With the dually, that's no longer a concern. And despite being a little overloaded per Fords GVWR, I feel MUCH safer with the dually.

Tonto, let me know how you like your chev 3500..is it diesel or gas, and what is the mileage.

I have a 99 F350, dually diesel, bought new in 1998....I have gone through two cam senors, and now I hear that, after nearly 9 years (!!), Ford has recall on its 7.3 powerstrokes...I am personally very upset with Ford on this issue...carrying large camper (Bigfoot) is problematic...and then should the cam sensor go out in traffic or other difficult situations I could be in trouble....thus while my f350 only has about 70,000 miles I just don't feel I can trust it.

Again, after a few months give me an update on your 3500, thanks HEMI

Personally, I would never carry a camper this big on a single axle truck.

Host has a very good "built your own camper" interactive tool on their website where you can select the camper you want, add all the options you want, and it will give you not only the MSRP, but also the dry weight.

Now, add in the weight of 60 gallons of fresh water and the weight of propane and you'll have the wet weight.
