100 % newbee here and I just bought a 85-86 skamper that the top pops up for $500 and had a few ????'s. The camper has been sitting for a few years but has no big signs of damage but when we got it home we found some stains in one of the corners under the master bed area and some stains under two of the window areas. We have had alot of rain here in the past few weeks. How should I start recaulking and what kind of caulk should I use?
One of the screens on the canvas part is pulling away from the canvas but its not ripped. Whats the best way to fix it? My wife was thinking about hot glueing it.
The water pump for the holding tank is missing. Whats the cheapest pump i can use on it?
Thanks for taking the time reading this and sorry if they are stupid questions but the family cant wait to use this and we plan on taking it out to a nearby campground this weekend. Had a blast with dad when i was a kid and hope that my kids will enjoy this too. Thanks again.

Since you did not pay much for the unit, why not treat yourself and have a new top installed. Because the unit is old you may not be able to find an original top. In this case take your complete unit (on the pickup truck) to an auto upolstry shop; they are normally set up to handle many different jobs such as making home and rv awings, covertible tops, boat tops...I am sure they can make a very good waterproof top.

On the waterpump, remove the old one and take to CampingWorld...they can match with replacement.

Enjoy your unit, HEMI

I just found a leak in the TC that had been driving me nuts, I could not find the source. I read on another forum about a service that large rv dealers offer, they pressurize your camper put smoke in it and the smoke comes out of anyplace that leaks, on that same site a guy said he was using his leaf blower and an idea went off in his brain, why not try the leaf blower to see if will pressurize the camper. Well it does, I used mine and borrowed a smoke machine from my kids that they use at parties, got it all in place turn on the smoke machine, filled the TC with enough smoke, you could not see your hand in front of your face, turn on the blower, and there it was, the leak. It was behind the awning about 3/4" in from the end. You could not see the hole. So I removed the awning, patch the hole, replace the awning, just today, now will hope for rain. The hole look like it was done with a large flat blade screwdriver driven through the skin of the TC. It rain 3days straight on our last trip 2wks ago, you can't believe how much water came through that hole. Hole size 1/2" long X 3/32" wide. I hope this idea helps with the new camper.
