Hi guys, newbie here, fixing to replace my '76 conestoga with a new to me Lance 480 9.5' 1994 model year.

I have heard a couple people say that the cabover won't clear my cab. I hope this isn't true, I'd be heartbroken (and a little ticked, too).

If it is true, can it be shimmed up with 2x4s in the bed or something similar? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, you can shim using plywood. I have a bigfoot 3000 that does not clear the 99 f350. I shimmed with: a medium grade rubber mat; 5/8 inch plywood; then a heavy duty truck bed mat. I have about 1.5 inch clear. Note: I did remove my running lights which also saved me about 1.5 inches.

I have been running with this configuration for 7 year...no trouble although I replace the plywood once.

I had Western RV build a aluminum frame for my camper. It's permanently attached to the bottom of my camper and gives me the clearance needed for the camper cabover. This would probably be an expensive option to have one built (I had it part of my deal for buying a new camper). I've seen lots of guys just use a few 2x4 laid on their side and screwed to a piece of plywood. Just slide this platform in before loading the camper and you're good to go. A rubber bed mat might be a good idea to limit any possible sliding.

YOu guys rock! Thanks so much for the quick responses!!!

Now, the next quandry... I notice that the electrical hookup is Lance-proprietary. I would like to re-wire so it works on my 7-pin connector. Does anybody have a schematic of what pins do what in the Lance setup?

When I rewired my sons slide in we just used a batt 12v and operated the leads to identify which lead supplied power to light, running lights and brake lights. Once you know that its just a standed hook up. We replaced all brake and running lights. Smile "007"

I've never heard of a Lance specific wiring. It would make no sense for them to wire their 7pin connectors differently than the all the truck manufacturers. Maybe someone decided to custom wire this one to make trouble for a thief?

At any rate, here's a great website that shows the standard 7 pin wiring:
