I have a '99 Lance 820 that I will need to leave parked for several days at a time at various airports this summer. I am worried about someone breaking in and stealing our belongings while we are away. The lock on the door doesn't really provide much security since the lock bolt can easily be defeated with a screw driver just by prying along the edge of the door. I've also found that my key opens the door of other similar campers.
Has anyone come up with good way to increase the security of that door? Lance 820 '99 Dodge Ram Diesel |

My Alpenlite has a factory deadbolt, so I've never considered upgrading my door. Thinking about it now, it seems like you could get a regular deadbolt lock from the hardware store and install it. I guess it depends on how mechanically inclined you are and whether you have the right tools.
Of course, once you secure the door better then it just makes it more appealing to break-in through a window. **** thieves! i used a standard house-type deadbolt, had it keyed alike with several other locks so i'm not carrying a bunch more keys. the escape hatch on my bigfoot is not on the roof, it's in the top side window, over eight feet off the ground. the lowest window is about seven feet. i think (hope)it's pretty hard to get into.
