I like the heftiness of the Torklift unit. But it is almost $1000.00!!!!!
The Reese unit is rated for around the same capacities. Yet is half that cost! i.e. $250 for the hitch and $250 for the 48" extension. So.....Looking for input about the Reese unit. I am only towing a 14 foot ATV trailer and two quads. Input please? It's great to be retired! |

I can only speak of the Superhitch. I have been using one for a litte over a year. The hitch itself is massive compared to the orginial equipment one I took off. It installed easily. I did have to drill extra holes to mount it. I use a 28" extension and a standard ball hitch, no WD hitch. I have been towing a trailer/jeep combo that weighs in at about 5600lbs. I bought a tongue scale and set the jeep's position on the trailer to obtain a tongue weight of 590lbs. I have towed this setup on mountian roads and desert interstates and no sway at all at any speed. I have run as fast as 75 but normally run around 65. I have towed over some the high passes in Colarado and it handled just fine. Hooking up the extension takes a just a couple of minutes. I spent lots of time reading what I could about the different hitches and went with the superhitch as I knew I would have the jeep or a boat behind the rig most of the time. It just made sense to me the way it was designed it should work well and it has.

I've got the Titan V towing a 7000 lb cargo trailer with a 30 inch long extension on a load equalizing hitch. Tongue weight is 780 lbs. You cut the Titan extension for the length you need. This has worked well for me for over 4 years of towing.
The Titan is a 2.5 in receiver, as is the 2.5 in. extension bar. Your 2 in. ball hitch fits in the end of the extension bar. I added 2 chains w/turnbuckles from extension end to receiver sides to help control turning torque that wants to push the extension bar to the side. ----------------------------------------------- '01 Dodge 2500 4x4 QuadCab HO Cummins 6 spd. pickup, slightly BOMBed, Rancho 9000 shocks, 4 leaf helper springs, Helwig Sway bar, 19.5in. wheels w/load range H tires, Reese Titan V hitch w/28 in. extension. I went with the Super Hitch from Torklift plus the 42" extension. I tow a Jeep Wrangler every now and then. I did just get back from a 5000 mile trip where I towed the jeep. Not one problem with system.

Jeese you guys are giving me hitch envy! I have the stock heavy duty ford hitch and a 18" ext. matter of fact this is second truck I have had it on. I have home made camper mounts I plug in the sides and run a 18" ext off the back for harley hauler or 23 foot stratos hardtop W/A fishing boat. Been across the country and to Fl. several times with zero issues. (at least with hitch or mounts) I have been keeping an eye on it for rusting but looks OK so far and still feel safe. Scotty.

I tow a 3,000 lb bass boat a a Reese Titan hitch with about a 24" extention, no problems in 9 years. 48" would be getting out there pretty far. What tongue weight / total trailer weight do you have with the two ATV's?

I am wondering how you folks use a 24" extension with a camper that is hanging over by 4 feet?
Do you have a modified tongue on the trailer? My ATV trailer is a single axel unit that is 5x14 foot. I have two 700 pound Polaris 500 ATV's and a 200 pound Honda 3000UI gen set and four 5 gallon gas cans. Are you folks saying that the extension does not need to extend past the four foot overhang on your camper? Chet It's great to be retired! |

With the 18" extention and the trailer tounge I haven't had a problem yet. As a matter of fact I leave the motorcycle trailer hooked up and use the tounge as a step. There seems to be plenty of clearance above the bumper and I have not jack knifed yet. Scotty.

quote: If that's for me, our camper is only 9' 10", so it doesn't hang over as far as the 11' 3" campers.
