Has anyone ever experienced what I describe hereafter:

When traveling and getting into a somewhat tight curve such as exiting a freeway at 35mph (or so), accelerator is still somewhat depressed, but holding the steering wheel agains the tight curve puts the motorhome into a jerking braking action - 1/4 second brake, 1/4 second brake off, 1/4 second brake, etc. The jerking is strong enough to move my upper torso back and forth.

The same happens whether turning left or right, at any speed between 25 and 45 mph - only at those speeds am I able to turn 'tightly'.

Also when going uphill in the mountains - under the same conditions - it occurs.

I do not know if it is caused by the motor home or by the toad.

MH is the 2007 Fleetwood Revolution LE, and the toad is a 2008 Front-wheel-drive GMC Acadia.

I have an appointment with Spartan on July 7, and they will investigate the problem.

Anyone heard of this before ???

Thanks for helping,

Horst

Almost sounds like your losing your connection to your tow vehicle brake system, provided you have one of course.

If you have a lose connection the brake system would think the vehicle has come disconnected from the moho and automatically apply the tow vehicle brakes.

Has some shadetree mechanic run out of conductors at the toad plug and resorted to using the tow bar for a ground conection to the toad/brake?

I'd try some turns without the Acadia on the back, to determine if the problem is toad or coach. Or simply leave the toad brake disconnected while you try some turns. You could rule out one whole class of potential problems that way.

The type of toad brake system could give a clue - what make & model do you use?

You could also have a coach suspension problem, with something rubbing against the wheels. Or a bad differential. Or a binding drive shaft (incorrect ride height can do that).

First thing that comes to mind is the break a way switch. Could a cable not have proper slack and be somehow partially yanking on the breakaway safety switch.?

Roadmaster

On the way to Spartan on July 7, I will try to duplicate the problem by finding the right curve. When I do, I will then disconnect the toad and take that same curve again. That will tell me if it's the toad or the MH.

Thank you for that recommendation (above).

Check your wiring. If someone used those cheap blue snap-together wire taps to connect wiring, remove them and use quality crimp connectors.
The only use for those wire taps is to insure you have electrical problems at the most inopportune time.

Which Roadmaster brake system do you have? Since you have a Revolution, I would suspect you have the Brakemaster air system, but the others are a possibility too.

The Brakemaster is air only and could not suffer from mechanical or electrical failures that would trigger braking (except the breakaway, and that stays on once activated). But the Even Brake or the 9700 system are electrically actuated and could do so.

Well said. The blue snap together taps should not be used for something this important.
