I have often wondered how those flat nosed Motorhomes do in the wind, and with mileage. Even the bus conversions. Anything that is that flat is gonna be like pushing a wall. My Southwind is the older 94 model, with the swept back roofline at the front. Even with the old 460 and EFI I average 6.5 to 7 pretty consistently.

Probably not much worse than some of the others mh's, although I know mine is pretty heavy. I think it's a combination of the "barn door" effect and the third slide that puts on more weight. My 'CCC' is only 975-lbs.
I definitely think the UltraPower has helped some. Maybe more so in power then mileage. I have my second ECM from Brazel's installed. I complained to them the first one didn't seem to help that much, so they sent out another with the latest reprogramming. Apparently as time goes by they learn more about programming for the better. So far I haven't had a chance to test the latest on a long road trip. However, a short trip under 200 miles has shown some improvement in both mileage and power, not a lot, but some. I don't get it. My mileage is great. I get around 11mpg (level driving, no headwind). I can't help but notice how many motorhomes pass me. I rarely go over 60 mph and I don't boot it up the hills or tow anything. Perhaps that is a significant factor ?

Boy is this an old thread. After Mike and crew worked on a plug wire issue, I now get about 3/4 of a mpg better than before. Not great but 10% better and the horsepower in now realized. I still drive at roughly 58-60 miles per hour and enjoy it more.

Rocky...old threads never die, they just fade away till someone resurrects them...
I'm a "new" owner of my current Class A, and I've been surprised at how good my MPG has been...between 7 - 8 MPG since I've owned it...put 2000 miles on it since late August...this mileage is as good as my Class Cs, so I'm happy so far...no add ons at all, OEM all the way. 2005 Bounder 34F Class A - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Toad |

I made a round trip from Louisiana to Washington DC for a total mileage of 3,316 miles. Total gas used is 407.19 gallons. I ran the generator for a total of 24.6 hours.
I am using .5 gallons per hour for the generator which comes out to 12.3 gallons. 407.19-12.3 = 394.89 gallons. This comes out to 8.39 MPG. After the trip, I just turned to 12,330 miles on the odometer. Hopefully, I still can get another .5 MPG when I reach 15,000 total miles and it will be fully broke in. I did not pull my toad and I didn’t really go in the mountains, but we encountered some good hills. I did nothing to my engine as it is stock from the factory. I drove between 56-60 MPH and acted like I had eggs under my foot. O’ my coach weighted at 20,030 lbs when the trip started. I think if I get the Ultra Power, I may even see 9 to 9.5 MPG. That I could live with......... On my earlier posts I mentioned getting about 6 to 6.5 mpg overall. The motorhome has since been broken in, have about 14,000 mile on it, and the mileage has picked up to steady average of between 7 and 7.5 mpg. That's still not the greatest but 1 mpg makes a big difference over 3 or 4 thousand miles.
