Hi All,

Our air conditioning is working sporadically when running the generator. Both air conditioners are fine with shore power. Symptoms - both will run on generator, sometimes neither will, sometimes 1 or the other. The thermostat will not show any display for 1 or both. When there isn't any display, there isn't any air conditioning. I have electrical schematics and am trying to trace the 5amp 12v control power for the thermostats. The 2004 39S has the Intellitec system and I think the problem lies within that control system when running on the generator. Bumps will cause the air conditioners to start and or stop. I think I may have a grounding problem. I'm in the process of joining the DOAI site but that takes up to 4 days to get forum credentials, so I decided to see if someone on IRV2 had any thoughts.

Hi All,

One other question. I would think there is a way to jumper each air conditioner. I don't believe I'm having a problem with the AC power to each conditioner, the problem seems to be on the control side.

The lack of a t-stat display is your clue - you seem to have a 12v problem in generator mode only, which seems strange. Maybe a coincidence and you use the genset only in some circumstance that is also related to the problem?

As you know, the t-stat circuits go through the Intellitec EMS. Two of the relays in the EMS are for 12v circuits and normally the a/c t-stats are wired through them to give the EMS control over them. May have a loose wire or bad relay there.

Also make sure your EMS display shows that the generator is running when it is in fact running. There is a special bypass in the EMS to turn off energy management when the genset runs and the "generator" light on the display should be lit to indicate that mode. If it isn't lit, then the EMS will try to limit you to 30A max and may be intentionally shutting off the a/cs. There is a terminal on the EMS board that must receive +12v when the genset is on to force it into generator mode.

This is going to sound strange but TRY it... Turn on some OTHER 120V item at the same time... anything will do. Several Bounders have a similar problem and it's a ground feed back.. turning on another item usual cures it while your driving with Generator on or parked with it on.

I had a problem with the RJ11/phone line type jack having a poor connection inside one of my AC units which would cause my AC's to not work. Cleaned all of them, both AC connections and also inside on the control panel and all was well.
