We have a 2000 Discovery. On our last trip, after five days of listening to the gas detector go off every time we cooked, I finally disconnected it. It has been going off ever since we acquired the motorhome a little over a year ago. We had the gas system checked, and there are no leaks. I assume the unit has gone bad on us. Can they be repaired or should I just buy a new one? And if I buy a new one, what is the cost?

Greg, who ever was testing your gas detector if you have a oven is the pilot ok, an you can not smell gas like rotten eggs If they used a gas detector I would guess you need a new one. They are on sale at CW for $40 reg. $55 this month. "007"

I had a problem with mine and contacted the Mfg. I returned it and they replaced it with a brand new one.

I have found on my Fleetwood Montara that the gas detector would go off while driving because the voltage in the system would get too high.

Other gas detectors I have used have the same problem. When the DC voltage in my system gets above 14.0 volts the gas alarm will go off. This happens just about every sunny day since I have 7 solar panels.

I turn the OEM detector on at night and it will predictable go off the next day when the voltage in my system reaches a certain level. It is sort of a reminder for me that I need to manage the solar panels, wind generator, or gasolein generator.

I usually leave the panels connected directly to the 3 battery banks and bulk charge them to 14.5 or so volts. Then if the power situation warrents I have to switch one or both arrays onto their respective regulators.

When I finish my 12 volt freezer I will not need to use the regulators and I will not lose some of the free power. I will have a DUMP to the freezer when voltage in the system gets above a certain level, that way all the power from sun and wind can be utilized.

About the gas detector, check the system voltage if it goes off without any gas around. High and low system voltages will set a detector off.
