We have an '03 Fleetwood Providence. We awoke this morning @ 4:30 am to a smoke filled motorhome. There was smoke coming from the air conditioner units & all of the vents. We turned the air off, unscrewed the covers, & climbed onto of the motorhome to look for a fire but there was no fire. I'm not sure if the air units have went out or what. Any suggestions would be appreciated!!!

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

My first thought would be high or low voltage in the campground.

We have been there since Thursday, July 3rd and it just happened this morning on the 7th. Wouldn't it have happened earlier that 4 days later?

I edited my original to include high voltage.

Low voltage usually occurs during the day when everyone is running appliances.

High voltage usually occurs at nigh when the load is much less.

Abnormal voltages can occur at any time.

However, this is just one possibility.

Do both AC's still work?

Any other equipment in the MH damaged?

Did anyone else have a problem?

Just spoke with Buddy Gregg Motorhomes Service Dept. They said it sounds like we got struck by lightning. That both airs should not have had smoke coming out of them unless something else was wrong. Not sure though. Taking it in to them today.

Just a thought.... are you sure it was smoke? I've seen white condensation clouds by the a/c ducts when the air in the coach was moist and the a/c running.

Chances of both a/c catching fire and smoking at the same time seem awful slim.

I think Gary is correct. You probably hit that combination of temperature and humidity that caused condensation from the vents.

Steffyj,
Did your smoke alarm(s) go off? Real smoke will sound the alarm, mine will with the faint smoke of dark toast in the toaster. If they did not sound, and they are working (you should test them and make sure, safty first) then I would lean twards condensation laden air.
