I have an '06 39S Discovery with Power Gear leveling jacks. I just noticed that the rear driver's side jack is slow to retract the last 4 inches or so. The last time I retracted the jacks I had to manually push the jack up.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem could be? Would it be a low fluid level problem?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

My jacks are retracted by springs. There have been times when my failure to pre-lube the struts resulted in the struts not being fully retracted by the springs. The struts have always retracted the rest of the way by driving the MH.

I'm not sure if you have electric or hydraulic jacks on your 06, but I had a jack on my 04 Southwind (hydraulic) that refused to retract. I usually had to use a 2x4 to pry it up. That problem turned out to be a faulty check valve.

We had problems with rear levelers NOT returning to the top. Called company and they sent hEAVY DUTY springs and paid the local Rv man to install them. Never a problem after that!

Do you have Hydraulic which most assume or Electric. About 2006 is when they switched to electric with all the hydraulic problems..

I still much prefer hydraulic over electric but before anyone can truly help, need to know which?

I can only comment on Hydraulic and thats been addressed well. Lubricate with Silicon spray before retracting..

4 inches though is rather extreme. In my 4 yrs of use, 1 inch to .5 inches at most. Since spraying each time I retract, no issues.. Smile

Thanks for everyone's assistance.

I sprayed the pistons for each jack with silicone and the problem was resolved!

Simple fix.

I had the same problem but had to take my jack down, open it and make a new ram guide cup. The old ram guide was broken and causing a bind on the jack. It took me about 3 hours and $8.00 to make the repair. Power Gear would not sell me the part but offered to sell me a new jack for $519.00 If anyone has the same problem, call me and I'll tell you how to fix it. If you need the part, I'll make one for you. 217-532-7862 It's a simple fix. Too bad Power Gear won't offer to help...!
