We were coming back from our Memorial Day weekend when a car ran a red light and hit the coach. Police estimate his speed was 88+mph and he did a great deal of damage. We've only had it for 6 weeks so we are hoping for either a replacement or a great repair shop.
Looks like the axle is broke, drive shaft was sheared off and the tires were turned oddly. The whole left side practically was taken off as well with storage bin areas desimated and contents all over the road. Looks like they hit the tires head on and really messed it all up. Driver and passengers in the car were okay minus a few broken bones. Wife and I are shook up and sore but okay. Contents of the inside of course went all over the place since the coach did tip way over but somehow miracuously uprighted itself half way through the process. Witnesses claim they thought for sure the coach was going over on it's side and it just somehow righted itself. Inside is a mess with frig contents all over, drawers opened, mirrors cracked, etc...sad day for us. Hope to hear something from the adjuster today and if they opt to repair, we'll be taking it back to the dealer where we purchased it. Everyone that has looked at the pictures says it's totaled, but time will tell. Will try to keep everyone posted, hoping for the best and pray for the teenagers in the car. Life goes on and whatever happens we'll be on the road again shortly we hope |

Glad to hear everyone is OK. But do not take the insurance companies first offer. They will try to settle as chaep as possible for their cost. Since the coach is so new, do not accept a settlement until you are sure you are OK with the finances.
If it starts to look like they do not want to do right by you, do not hesitate to get an attorney involved. It is really something at the number of people that no longer feel that a stop light applies to them. Stopping is not a requirement...only a suggestion to many. Great possibility that the frame could be bent. It would seem unlikely that it could be straightened to the point that the slides would work properly or that the coach would go down the road properly. Good luck!!!

Wow,glad to hear your okay.Take the advice on not setteling for first offer , unless they offer you a new MH.You only have one shot at it being made right.Depending on the damage , it may never be right. These things are built like jigsaw puzzles, nothing is easy or cheap when it comes to extensive body work.

Glad to hear you are in much better shape than your motorhome. Based on your desciption, I would not feel comfortable with a local repair shop or RV dealership doing the repairs. If it were mine, it would be on the way back to factory when and if any repair attempts are made.

Well it looks like so far about $25K in damages per the adjustor. It goes to the dealer tomorrow so they can tear it down and see for sure what the problems are. Right now, not going to be totaled. If it's not, it will be 3-6 months before it's done. And it will be a loooooooooonnnnnnnnng summer for us.
But we'll make it, making dreams for the next run once we get it back. Will let you know if it's totaled after the dealer looks at it, but right now, it's looking like a long repair. Thanks for all the comments, appreciate it. |

Make sure the adjuster is aware of any payments you will have to pay while the camper is out of service due to the accident. You have lost the use of the camper and want to be made whole, either through a rental or restitution of payments made by you for a nonfunctional camper.
In addition to the lost benifit, I would also express my concern for the potential long-term impact of the accident on some very expensive systems. The shock of the collision was transfered throughout the camper and many systems may wait a while to fail. A long extended warranty would be in order. Make sure they understand that you will not accept any offer or repairs that fail to return you and your camper to the original condition. This message has been edited. We went to the dealer on Saturday to look at getting some personal affects and they walked us through the coach. They state that getting it back it going to be tough. Floor is bowed, a lot more damage than we thought.
We hope it's totaled but won't find that out until later this week or next I'm sure. Hoping for the best and if it is totaled a short depreciation timeframe. Since it was only 6 weeks old, hoping depreciation is $15K or less, we'll see eveuntually I guess. |

Another factor to consider with such a new coach is the reduced value of the coach after the repairs have been made. If it were me, I would push for the insurance company to also make me whole for the value of the coach had it not been wrecked minus the value of the repaired coach.
