hi Monty,

i would suggest checking all around your windshield. i've had a problem with my windshield popping out a little bit. this is a problem that is caused by Fleetwood placing the leveling jacks in front of the front tires. when you get these jacks down and have the rears down at the same time, all the stress from the jacks tweaking the frame get releaved in the front corners where the support is weakest.

i've seen this happen several times on Fleetwood coaches and have experienced it myself a few times.

the last time my windshield popped, i was lucky enough to only have to have it re-set in place - nothing cracked.

this is a 2001 Southwind that had windshield damage from improper jack placement by Fleetwood:

I think Fleetwood must be leraning from some of these issues as my jacks are located between my front and real axles. My fresh tank is in the center of the coach and the holding tanks are very near the axle. The rig is only a couple of months old and I see no issues with the windshield yet.

I also think I have not described the noise properly. I do beleive it is wind related but it is not really a "wind noise" sound. It is more of whining or buzzing when the condition starts. I thought a couple of people had hit on it with grill but my tubes are all sealed on the ends with caps and it is braced several tmes vertically and seems to be pretty stout. I am still leaning to some metal plates I believe to be some type of splash guard in front of the front tires. They are about 10" x 14" and area only fastened at the top. The drivers side it bent to accomidate the routing of some wires. They look like they could vibrate and cause the sound. I am trying to figure out a way to temporarily support them to see if the noise stops or changes.

hi Monty,

i've also had issues with those sheet metal guards underneath coming loose and making all kinds of racket. it seems the sheet metal screws work themselves loose then the noise begins.

i check regularly and keep a supply of sheet metal screws in my mohos to replace any problem spots.

hope your problem is that simple!

cheers,
chris

This issue occurs without the a/c. We have not had the unit long enought to turn on the air. Winter is refusing to let go around here.

mohoguy,

The plate appear to welded at the top but just hangin down iw no other supports. I am thinking about make a couple of lower arms using 1/4" rod stock and securing the bottom of the plates. If I could be sure this is the issue the dealer has told me he will fix whatever it is but I have not gotten to make the noise in the three time I taken it to them. You know, the dentist and toothache thing.

Monty,
I too have that irratating quartering wind noise/vibration. I plugged the grill and that helped some. One other thing to check may be your front license plate (if you have one). Mine was another source of vibration in the front cap. I used a leaf blower to direct a flow over the plate and it made a lot of noise and vibrated the lower part of the cap. Good luck!

I have put the licsense plate in a rigid frame and fastened it pretty tight to eliminate that as a possible cause but I have not worked on the grill. How did you block the area and where?

Monty,
I am sorry, I didn't use language that was very clear. The tubes in my grill had open ends, and I plugged the ends with silicone, which took away the flute effects that I was getting.

Ok, I see what you mean. Mine have little plastic plugs in all the ends. I do like the blower idea. I may try that and see what noise I can create.

Monty WS - We have a 2008 Bounder 32K and just recently "developed" this loud buzzing vibration sound at 60 MPH + it is intermittant- and seems to be prevelant when I am off the gas and running with momentum. The sound comes and goes but when it comes it is very distracting and loud. I have not talked with my dealer yet but intend on doing so this week. My wife was up on the dashboard while it was buzzing and said it definitely sounded like it was dead up front. I can also feel it throough the steering wheel (slightly) and if I put my hand on the dash - it also has a slight vibration feel. Under 50 MPH its quiet as all can be but as soon as I hit 55-60 - "its back!" It will go away as I accelerate but returns again around 65-70MPH. I did find that the front acces panel was unlocked and moving a bit. I did lock it and the noise went away (but was slightly audible around 65MPH). Then I as I drove (about and hour into the trip) and over some rough roads - it reappeared. I was glad to see your post- if I find out more I will drop you a line either on the forum or on PM - please do the same. It sounds like our problem is very similar if not the same.
