I am new to world of Class "A" motohomes. I have owned around 18 rv's over the years but the only other motorhome was an '05 Jayco Granite Ridge. It did have wind related noises to speak of but our new '08 Bounder 35H has very few rattles or noises accept for a loud noise that seem to be related to speed and noise. It seems to be a type of wind noise. It happens at around 65 mph and when the wind is hitting the front of the unit at an angle. If the wind is straight on or a tail wind, you don't hear it. If you pull up to a truck it quits. I would like to have a better idea before I take it to the dealer. Any thoights or experience?

If there are thin bars in your grille, thet may be vibrating in the wind.Try sticking some wood or styrofoam in between the bars to "deaden" them and listen for any change.

Having the grill bars on the front of your coach whistle or hum at highway speeds is a frequent issue with late model Fleetwood motorhomes. The bars are hollow & the air movement past them makes them act like a flute. Ours was fixed by the dealer (at n/c) by sealing all the grill bar ends with silicone.

Thanks for your replies. I do have the pipe bar grill. The ends of all the tubes are capped with black nylon plugs. So I don't believe the "flute" theory is the problem. I am not sure about the vibration theory as they seem pretty ridgid and they have several support rail runiing vertical. I will try bracing them some more and see if that helps.
I have also noticed some thin metal panels hanging down in front the of the wheels. Could these vibrate under certain condition and has anyone tried bracing them? Monty '08 Bounder 35 H |

Check for steel plates located lengthwise along your frame side rails-they are about 10 inches by 12 feet in length and hang down below the frame. The securing welds broke on my 04 Southwind and they made quite a noise in a quartering wind.I am not sure of their exact function, but they may aid in assisting in cooling air flow over the engine as I have not had any plug wire problems that some have reported on their W22 chassis.Good luck!

Speaking of steel plates, they are heat shields. I have a 2007 Bounder 35E. As I pulled into my site at Disney World on April 14 I opened my drivers side slide. I heard something hit the ground. It was the heat shield. I called Fleetwood. They said that my one year warrenty was over but they would make a note of it. Wow...they sure care about their customers and safety. I told them I was going to report it to the FEDS as a safety violation. If this falls off on the highway someone is goint to be killed. Fortunately I bought from a dealer that is very customer oriented. (Media Camping Center, Hatfield, PA) I called their service department and talked to Debbie Hein. She was very helpful and said she would check on my problem and call me right back. She called back within 10 minutes. Fleetwood has agreed to pay for the repair and she told me that Disney would have a list of repair people. She said to get it repaired and send her a copy of the bill. I had it welded and have had no problems since. No matter how much you like a particular RV it is very important to buy from a dealer that supports you. I know some manufacturers care about service after the sale but I am disappointed with Fleetwood.

Again, thanks for everyones input. I have kept pretty busy lately with work. I have not had a chance to check some the suggestions out but hope to this weekend.
As far as our dealer, Loveall RV, Columbia, MO they have been great to work with and have taken care of any concern or issue so far. The problem I am having is getting the them to hear the noise. I doesn't happen all time which is making it very difficult to track down. Monty '08 Bounder 35 H |

Monty, it always seems that sounds disappear at the moment a technician appears. If you have access to a tape recorder, try taping the sound and jot down the conditions when the sound started. Good luck, squeeks, rattles, and hums are tough to deal with.

Thx for the advice. I hope to get a chance to work with a bit this week end. If I could just locate the area, then I can let the dealer take over. We have burn a lot of fuel already with test rides but it seems every time we get it to him, it is calm day. There has to be about 15mph wind in the right direction to get it to go.

Some motor homes have a drain slot in the window frames on the out side. The slot is to drain the water from the window out of the window frame. This slot can cause alot of wind noise (Hissing). If you have them put some duct tape on them just temporarliy to see if the noise goes away. If it does you can get the "window vent drain cover" from Fleetwood. It allows the water to drain but stops the noise. I had a Itasca Sunova that would drive you crazy because on this. I just purchased a 2007 Bounder Diesel it was quite until the plastic window vent came off. Very loud with out one.(Silicon adhesive is the only thing that holds them on).Put a new one on noise went away.
