2008 Fleetwood Terra LX 34N Workhorse

We just got back from our first trip. We traveled a total of 815 Miles, from Highland, CA to St. George, UT and back. The trip was uneventful. I averaged 8.6 mpg towing a 2001 Ford Focus ZX3.

I have been reading the forums since May when we purchased our new Terra LX. I found a lot of great information which helped on our trip.

Thanks to all of the members for posting the good info.

I noticed that I had to correct the steering quite a bit while traveling at about 60-65 mph, is this normal. I felt like I was chasing the coach to keep it in the lane. Is there a fix for this or is it normal.

Is the UltraPower program, Taylor Wires, and one step colder plugs a good mod to add in the future?

It sounds like you had a great first trip - excluding the steering ...we are glad that you were able to pick up some tips from the forum before your trip - you had access to some of the most knowledgeable RV owners around.
I am not sure - maybe Sacs will chime in in regards to this but...it seems like we installed "Steer-Safe" to take care of that steering problem.

Congrats on the new coach. As far as steering goes, you're probably feeling what most of us driving chassis with leaf springs feel - coach moves sideways slightly after the axles do. Usually the best fixes for that are to install panhard bars on both front and rear axles. I have all 3 of the Ultrapower mods (plus the CAI) installed, and the change in HP/torque is definitely noticeable when going over freeway overpasses in OD with the CC on. No more downshifting there. Also gained about 1mpg. On longer hills, you probably won't notice a whole lot of difference in performance.

A panhard rod, e.g. the Davis Tru-Trak, will almost surely solve your steering problems. It is a common problem with leaf spring front suspensions. Learn about it at Tru Trac

Tru Trak is a front panhard rod, but there is a rear one by Henderson's that will probably work just as well. I doubt if you will need both front and rear, so I'd install one and see how it goes rather than buying both at once.

Congrats on your new ride and I have been through some of the same control issues with our Bounder. Before you go out and purchase aftermarket fixes for your handling issues make sure you have checked the air pressures in all tires and weight distribution between the front and rear axles. Our Bounder is very sensitive to air pressures in the front tires and the addition of 50+ gallons of fresh water makes a tremendous difference in the handling by shifting the center of gravity forward.
