Interesting post, we bought our first mh last year, a used 03 gasser. I'm 46 the wife is 50 and were both full time workers. We are weekenders all summer and fall and we parked it in a seasonal spot for the winter and used it as a snowmobile camp all winter. The same week we got the rig last year I signed up with FMAC. Why? I wanted the plaque. I knew nothing about the club I just thought if you have a coach you join this and I remember being all excited about mounting the plaque on the coach. When I started reading the mag I knew we were out of place you could tell by the rally pics. It didn't matter, we go to different campgrounds all the time and meet people of all ages. We will be attending the Workhorse rally in Myrtle Beach in Oct. This will be our first FMAC/Workhorse rally and we are using vacation time to do it. I sold the idea to DW by telling her it's on the beach and a second honeymoon for us. I'm going for the training classes, I do all my own maintaince and keeping up with a coach you use year round takes some level of skill and I just want to build on it. I tried to get my buddy I go traveling with to join FMAC, he asked me what would he get out of it, I had no real good answers. He's a working man like me and mail forwarding is not at the top of the list. It still came down to the plaque. I think for me as a younger man living hand to mouth and seeing coaches with that plaque going by I always remember saying I want to do that. And now we are doing it. My dad died at 62, his big plans were to retire and buy a coach and him and mom were going to hit the road, they never got the chance, she died 5 years later in 99. The old man wanted the plaque so now I carry it for him. RV people are awesome, my daughter loves going on the road with us and we love it. There is a movement of people out there in my age bracket that will keep things going no matter what, while their square dancing up at the hall I'll be watching the Redsox in HD outside under the stars and we'll all be having a blast. Hey older people can cook good food and I miss my moms cooking, hit a rally and eat thats what they do there. lol

Gracies Mom, I like reading your posts good wit. Keep it up.

We attended our first FMCA rally 3 years ago when I was 53 and wife 55. Most there seemed to be the age of my mother. The nightly entertainment was Nothing that we would have enjoyed. Have not been to anymore FMCA rally's and probably will not attend one unless we want to look at all the new coaches. To me, there is nothing 'Family' about this group.

Our favorite is the Newmar Fulltimers Chapter. Most of our rally's are in the 12-20 coaches with the big one each year being 30-60. To us, smaller is better as it gives you a chance to get to know other better. I don't need big entertainment at night. I can do that myself.

I have had a motorhome for several years but decided to join FMCA last year mostly for the magazine and coach net .I still work fulltime and have teens at home . we would like to go to a rally for the experience but many are not on a weekend or close enough to go to without taking time off . usually on vacation we want to go somewhere and relax not a field with several hundred motorhomes side by side.
families and family activites have changed since the 50s most of the RV clubs havent changed the format very much it is like a lot of business "it worked in 58 why should we change it now"
