Hi Steve
I did not document mileage as most of our trip down was cold and we ran the gen set a lot.
We also were fighting huge wind on the trip.
I know that last summer on a trip to Vancouver BC were were getting 11+ on that trip without the car and trailer

I read this thread, did my research using posted information from Freightliner, Allison, and Cummins. It does indeed appear that the Allegro FRED isn't up to the challange. HOWEVER, I dropped an email to the source and received the following. =)

In short, if Tiffin says the Allegro FRED will pull my 3600 lb. Honda CRV, I'll take their word.

========= Reply from Tiffin ================

Yes, I talked to Danny Inman and he said the Allegro FRED is capable of towing the Honda CRV.

If you want to call our Service department for any other questions on this, their number is 256-356-0261.

Thanks,

Stephanie Umfress

Just came upoin this post. Great information! I own a Tiffin Allegro Open Road. I thought it had the 2100 tranny. I had no idea that the Allegro and the Allegro Bay had different Allison transmissions, even though I researched this subject to death! Why Allison would even make two transmissions that have the same gear ratios that are so close in specs surprises me.

I am way over the GCWR on my Allegro when towing my 4Runner. I just completed a 1,200 mile trip to Lake Tahoe and back that included tons of very steep hills when it was over 105 degrees outside. I was worried that I was taxing my 2100 tranny, but I had no issues. Now that I am aware that I only have the derated 2200 tranny, I will worry even more!

So, can anyone recommend a shop in So Cal that can swap out the 2200 tranny in favor of the 2100 tranny???

Thanks.

Cruzer,

We are seriously considering an Allegro Bay FRED but after reading this thread I am really confused. First, do any of the Bay FRED's come with the Allison 2100 and the 340 ISB? or is that just a dream combination?
I don't want to end up buying a FRED that is not up to pulling an 07 CR-V plus a carefully loaded MH that will not be overloaded.

Your thoughts will be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

George

I do believe the Bay FRED does come with the 340 ISB and the 2100. Te Allegro Open Road comes with the 300 ISB and the 2200 (which is what I have).

I'm not concerned about the 300 ISB. That can be pumped up by Banks. It is the tranny I am concerned about. I will call Allison this week and see what difference there really is between the 2100 and the 2200. It could be someting as minor as a parking pawl.

Good Luck.
