Everyone stresses the importance of getting your coach weighed, preferably on all four corners. Please guide me in the direction of the best, or possible places to get this done. I know I can get it weighed at the Fleet Truck stop or some Flying Js, but do they have the capabilities of individual wheel weighing?

RVSEF (Recreational Vehicle Safety Education Foundation) weighs each wheel and conducts seminars throughout the year at various locations. They'll weigh rigs at most of their seminars. Here's their 2008 schedule.

The only truck stop scales I have used are at Flying J. They will give you individual axle weights, but not individual corner weights. To get corner weights, you would need to pull on the scale with one side on the scale and one side off. FJ scales have railings that prevent this. If you have someplace that sells gravel or landscape supplies and that has a scale, they will sometimes let individuals use their scales for a small fee. Often it is possible to pull on these scales one axle at a time and one side at a time.

As Hitchhiker says, if you can get to a rally or seminar where RVSEF is doing weights, they are an excellent resource. Not only will they weigh all 4 corners (plus your tow vehicle or toad), they will check tires and make recommendations regarding pressures and any possible overloading.

Another option would be to contact your local law enforcement office if they have a "weight team" as a lot of those folks appreciate the opportunity to weigh an RV for practice.
Several times the Virginia Beach folks were having a class for newly trained "weight team" officers at a local RV dealer and I was able to get past coaches weighed.... Of course they'll want to tour the inside as well, but the drool is easy to wipe up. Jester

G'morning ALL: For all the talk on various threads and on various forums about the need to weigh all corners of your rig, ya think someone would start offering this service because, as again evidenced by posts above, IT AIN'T EASY GETTING WEIGHED !!!! How much do those portable scale units (that the Highway Patrols and DMV folks use) cost?? BOY, the campground or the RV Dealership/Service outfit that advertised "FOUR CORNER WEIGHING" either free as an enticement to use that campground or service center, OR, even for a fee, would sure get ALOT of business simply because they offered the weighing service. Orrrrrr....might it be a means of income for some RV'r who bought such a portable scale and towed it whereever they went, offering (for a fee) to weigh rigs in the campgrounds they stayed in...they'd likely get more business than the dog groomers who are continually working in most campgrounds. At any rate...WEIGHING AIN'T EASY, and.....it oughta be...eh?? Steve & Lynette

Thanks all for the suggestions. I'll probably have to go with the axle weights for now. Maybe I'll be able to do the individual wheels later. Action

The last time I looked into prices, each scale was over a $1,000, and you would need 2 at a minimum.

In addition, the weighing area needs to be perfectly level.

And then there is the maintenance and re-certification cost!

I couldn't find room for the 10,000# calibration weight. Wink
