I've receceived a couple messages about the 43QRP weight and carrying capacity since it's a new floorplan in 2008 so I thought I'd post our wieght sticker.

I am looking forward to loading the motorhome up for our travels and getting in on a scale myself. I highly suspect, most of the carrying capacity is on the rear axle, but I'm curious to see if the front is getting close to the listed capacity. Until I know the true weights, I'll assume it's at capacity and inflate the tires accordingly.

That's only about 600 lbs less than my 42QRP so I expect that your readings won't be that much different than mine. We load pretty heavy but even so, there's an extra 4,500 - 5,000 lbs of available CCC that's not being used. You're right - most of the capacity is on the rear axles. We found that the front axle scales out around 14,300 lbs but that's with full load, including dual freezers up front packed solid with frozen meat, full fuel, etc. - also with a 100 lb dog sitting up front and wondering what's going on. Laugh If you load your pet rock collection near the rear you'll be fine but I would keep the front tires aired up until you get an accurate scale reading. These tag axle coaches are perfect for hanging a Harley on a carrier on the back. The excess (combined) rear axle capacity won't even be affected by it and chances are the bike will help unload the front axle even more.

Mark, I can highly recommend the services of a young lady named Tamara at Blue Ox when considering a cycle lift on the rear of the coach.... Believe it or not, when I completed the downloadable chart on the Blue Ox website when considering a lift on the LADB, I was OUT of the allowable ranges and as such she recommended against a lift of any kind.

The Blue Ox site has a very handy weight/measure template for use when considering these lifts.

Yes Joe, I know you and Shelley aren't in the market..... Jester

Bob, that's hard to understand. Not that I'm doubting you, I just can't seem to fathom why they wouldn't recommend it. My initial impression would be that anything as super duty as a LADB should have no problem hanging a bike on the back end. Does the K3 with the big ISX and all the extra trim add that much weight to the rear of the LADB that there isn't enough left for a bike or am I missing something? Inquiring minds want to know. Laugh

Mark, by using the table found at the Blue Ox link for the lift and measuring and so forth, I had something like 600-700 pounds I could use back there... Hard to believe, but I was at the factory when I did the weight and measure evolution and they saw it as well and concurred. Frustrated

I seem to recall looking at the LA weight numbers when Bob first was considering the bike lift and the rear carrying capacity was pretty well used up. It's a really loaded coach, but comes in heavy on the scale.

Just glancing at the specs, the LA has a GVWR of 54,000 and an UVW of 48,000. Adding to the UVW are 160 gallons of water and 200 gallons of fuel (2,900) so the rig wet scales at almost 51,000. Without even figuring in the sleeping capacity, it's got less than 3,000 lbs of carrying capacity which most likely a chunk of that is on the front 20,000 lb front axle.

The LA is no lightweight Smile

I Know someone that had a bike lift installed on a Winnebago 40' Vectra. He had an issue with his coach and when he went to the dealer they said he could void his warranty because of it. He then went to Freightliner as he had a Freigthliner chassis. They told him the same thing.......NO GO !

I'm interested in a Zephyr and plan on visiting Red Bay this month. However,I just met a couple at Lazy Days who changed their mind on a Zephyr purchase after visiting Red Bay and watching an entire front end being replaced on a new Zephyr because of a weight problem! Is this old news or something new?
