Two years ago we decided on a AB42 and started the move from cruising on our sailboat. Put our home on the market, went to the Jan 2007 Tampa show and reaffirmed our choice. Then the bottom fell out of the real estate market (Padre Island, TX.) Now we wait patiently.

Goal has changed to a 43 and we will continue "lurking" to get the best information.

Tom R,
Did the Super Steer motion control work well for you? I am considering having them installed on my coach. I think anything on a Freightliner XC chassis is "blessed" with plenty of side to side sway. I inquired at HWH about their air suspension system for my coach that is supposed to cure the problem, but the $6,000 quote I got back is a little rich for my blood and overwhelming for my pocketbook. Please let me know.

Thanks

Jim,
I was at the HWH factory and watched a install, pretty incredible system, it is worth it, but unless I come into some extra money(winning the lottery Confused ) I wont be getting it. As far as the Super Steer goes, I have heard nothing but GREAT things, and I will be installing them on my coach before we set out on our trips this year! Just waiting for the tax refund! I will probably also change out my shocks to Koni's, I am sure they are long over do!

Jim, how do you like the Saturn Outlook? It is a real sharp looking car!

Lenny,

We really like the Outlook. We have the 7 seater. 4 captain chairs and a third row seat (seats 3 children). All the back seats will fold flat. It has some nice bells & whistles. Plenty of 12v outlets including one in the rear next to the tailgate. 112 ac inverter in the rear of the center console. It's good for a small six-pack cooler, or to use your house cell phone charger instead of having to pay for a 12 volt charger. I guess it should run your laptop with no problem, though I have not done so. GMC & Chevy both have equivalent models.

Gas mileage runs 16-17 in town with lots of stop and go short trips. 23 on the road running 70-75. Brand new, we got 27 between Pensacola and San Antonio. Wife drove it. We drove at 60 as I was pulling my Lincoln Continental on a dolly behind the motorhome (taking the Lincoln to the son in Texas). At the time, no one had base plates for the Outlook so we put the Outlook (FWD) on the dolly for the return trip. I think I have Blue Ox #3 of that model.

Downside: it does not ride like my Lincoln did. We made the decision to buy a tow that would be a primary vehicle also, so it was a replacement for the Lincoln. (Son sold the Lincoln for us.)

Like all Saturns, you have to pull a battery fuse (one of the 2 50 amp battery fuses) if you want it to start when you get wherever your going. I really love it when its raining like it was yesterday as I was hooking up. Sales overlooked mentioning this small item in their "features" presentation. "Just turn the key on to the first position, put the gear shift in neutral and your ready to go." You can do that. It just won't crank when you get there. I called Saturn customer service to inquire about an cut-off switch. The rep agreed that building a vehicle which they know is going to be used as a tow (big selling feature) and not put a interior cut-off switch is not the brainiest thing that GM has ever done, year after year. He did tell me where I could find a nice gentleman who could & would install such a switch. He also confirmed that if I had such a switch installed it would void my warranty. To add insult to injury, the instructions in the Owner's Manual instructed you to pull the wrong fuse. That's another story.

We like the Saturn.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I installed the Super Steer Motion Control devices on my 38' Gulfstream with a freightliner XC Chassis however have not installed them on my Phaeton 40 QSH as of this date. I can tell you that the Super Steers are the best and cheapest investment you can make for correcting the side to side sway of your coach. I had drove over 1500 miles after installing them and it was like driving a different coach, no more white knucle rides when a tractor trailer passes you and the wind whip would send you in a wild rocking almost out of control situation.
I installed all four myself in less then 1/2 hour and I and not exagerating is was a 1/2 hour using a truck pit to get under it.
They cost approx $400 for the set of 4. You need a good pvc tube cutter to make a nice square cut. Thats all the tools you need. Make sure you order the correct size though. I used an open end wrench as is recommended on the web site. Take several different size open wrenches such as 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 and measure the outside of the air line that goes into the top of the air bag front and rear. You will probably find 1/2" front and 1/4" rear if you have a XC chassis.
Once you have measured the air lines for correct size you will need to know if you chassis is under or over 30,000 lbs GVWR. You now have the information to order the SS devices.
There are lots of info as to how to install them under the chassis forum.
The best $400 you will ever spend believe me.

Tom R,

Thanks for the information. I am not comfortable doing the install myself (know your limitations). I checked with the RV service center that I always use and they will not do the install because they do not have a pit. They did refer me to a local shop that can handle this sort of job. I'll check with them Monday. I wonder if Freightliner can answer the question on the size of the airlines? You would think Super Steer would have a list by chassis. Wonder if Freightliner service would do the install while I'm up there next month? Think I'll make a few calls Monday.
Our rigs are listed at 32,000 lbs GVWR.
Thanks again for the help.

Let me know if Freightliner will install them for you. I don't think will because Freightliner doesn't think there is a problem with their chassis. In fact I read somewhere on this forum that Feightliner thought that if Super Steer devices were needed then thay would install them on all their chassis. If you read under the chassis section of this forum then you will learn

Somehow the message was posted before completing message. Please continue from you will learn...
you will learn that the owners of freightliner chassis that have installed them are convinced and I being one, believe that they really do make a significant difference in handling characteristics after instaliing the Suoer Steer motion control devices.
Hope this information is some help,

I don't own one yet, but I am looking into one. I was hoping to get a 2004 Tiffin Allegro from my local dealer here. I'm not sure if I should go for the 400 HP Cummins or 350 HP as I don't really see myself going out of the Southeast for now, but who knows... That's why I've been reading through these forums. I had one question that I haven't been able to find yet. Is there anyway I can find the 2004 pricing when brand new for these bad boys? I'd like to get an idea of the depreciation rate... Thanks for any help you can give!

Tom R,

I hope to have them on before going to Gaffney. We have a local shop that was recommended by my service center and with whom I have dealt with before. I'm going to check with them next Tuesday when I get back in town from attending a couple of chapter rallies. I'll let you know the outcome. I've read the reviews on Freightliner Chassis Owner's Club as well as other places. That is what got me started me looking into it. If I don't get any satisfaction from Freightliner about my steering, I'm probably going to spring for the bell crank also, if someone else installs it.
