Virg,

I maybe and probably am insane for mentioning this but what about a bike trailer they use to haul kids around in. Seems to me you could stuff it full of grocery items where it is enclosed. Might be a bit outside the box but I have never been average.

Costs about a $100 and holds a 100 lbs, enough food to last a day or so. Item weighs about 30 lbs.

Larry, I live outside the box! Homeless, my daily driver is a Volvo tractor and I park it in a trailer park everynight and absolutely love it! NOW......

I'm afraid tha the wheels on those bike carts will only run so fast before they develop trouble. Example, if I put a 100lbs of groceries in one of those child carriers, drive 10 miles back to the trailer at say...45mph, how many time could I do that before the bearings, hubs, etc would begin to wear out. I honestly do not know the answer. I wish that would work because that is EXACTLY what I want. It would be perfect for my use. They cost between$200 and $400. On the other hand the Harbor Freight kit trailer costs $200 and is DOT certified to pull behind a truck on the highway. BIG dilemma.

Yeah I didn't think of that. I was just thinking about taking down and putting up the HF trailer on Overkill. Unless you could winch it up all the time.

But looking at other trailers they are going to weigh the same or more and probably cost 3x to OMG more.

Seems like that is the best solution.

I didn't know, until you said something the other day, that you had a platform up there for a Smart.

I looked at those things but told Patty if I got in one of those I would probably kick out the headlights trying to get in it.

Folks, I've also been looking at scooters as an alternative for short trips and yes, I'm jealous of Virg for getting this nice ride. These Piaggio, MP3s, 500cc scooters are NICE! Oboy With a trailer to haul 'Ole Harley' in and Miss Jo on the back, what more could a man ask for!! Laugh

The pictures you chose look exactly like our scooter, Jo even picked out helmets to match the wine bike color. Roll Eyes

I checked the mileage yesterday and on 92 miles we got 52mpg. So far in 270 miles I've spent $15 on fuel. The trailer is going to be a neat project. If I find that 40" is too wide, I found a "Workshop" style project to cut it down to 34". Here is a picture of the finished product. About $500 invested, included the Sears cartop carrier.

If you keep scanning down, you can see how he "narried" it up, dolled up the lighting with LED's, sanded and painted the frame, added reflective tape, etc.
I ordered the lighter base trailer frame which has 8" wheels. I'm not going cross country, just to the grocery store. All in all, a great project for a non-mechanical guy like me. Everything bolts together unless of course we trim it down which will require a welding shop to modify te axle. I figure I could cut off the three cross members with my hack saw.

Nice looking trailer Wow -- Virg, I bookmarked Dave's site and will definitely follow your lead. We're seriously considering the Piaggio MP3 -- for less than 10K we can have a nice scooter for short sightseeing and trips to the grocery store. If you left the top of your cargo carrier off, Ole Harley could ride in style -- add a soft bed and he'll be the King of the campground pooches!! Big Hand
