On my '91 Holiday Rambler the tilt steering wheel was locked in the up position. When I bought it I didn't even realize it had a tilt wheel. It also didn't have a tach or vacuum gauge. The tach for going down the mountain in low gears and the vacuum gauge for fuel economy. The exhaust was old and small and highly restricted.
Time to bite some bullets. I had a MH specialist in San Bernardino put on a free flow muffler and 3" exhaust. I had my mechanic friend take apart the steering column to discover the problem with the tilt mechanism. The tilt mechanism is the turn signal switch and the bottom plate was bent. A call to Ford in SB they had one so off I went on the MC. The switch is quite sophisticated and has it's own wiring harness. The new switch was improved over the older being considerably beefed up where the plate was. The gauges went in and every thing was put back together. Tilt wheel works great. I'll let you know about any mileage gain but more power is there from the new exhaust. I also learned a lot about headers and header design and what to expect and not to expect. Now we are getting ready for a trip to Southern Utsh. HR 1991 31' Alumilite 1990 Wrangler Heavily Modified Toad |
