1 year ago we had the "chip" installed in our 99 MH with v-10 engine. Now 11 months later we are making our first extended trip. Left Seattle on Jun 16th. We are now in Billings, MT. We have gone over the Cascades and Rockies so far. I can't say I have gained 2 mpg but I can report that my power going up the mts was deffently improved. I never got below 40 mph at 3500 rpms. For the most part on the flats I ran at 58 mpg with cruise control on. On moderate hills she would drop into 3rd near the top. If I disabled cruise control she would climb any small hill in OD. So far it was well worth the price I paid.
It may be more difficult to gauge MPG increase from the Ultrapower as more and more stations are putting higher ethanol blends out at the pumps. Up to 10% could mean anything from 0% to 10% and I have been told that lately it has been creeping closer to the 10% limit. On my wifes Saturn that has taken us from 25/27 MPG to 20/22 MPG a 20% drop due to the ethanol blends.
Your not dropping MPG since last year could mean that the Ultrapower has given you an edge aginst this lower efficiency fuel.
Were you using the ethanol blend or "real" gasoline last year before the chip was installed?
I am using "regular" blend as far as I know. However on one fill up on this trip I did use some Exxon which had "10% ethanol. Interestingly I got the best MPG on that tank including some hill climbing. Now that we are out of the Mts and heading E I will be able to get a better feel for MPG out here on the flats.
Final report of MH performance. Finally made it to our goal. I had plenty of power and my MPG ended up being 7.6 avg. Not too bad for a 36' hog and towing a CR-V. This includes climbing the Cascades and Rockies.
