That sounds like an aftermarket intake such as a K&N Cold Air intake. What does the filter look like or what branding does it have on it?

That shield gets removed along with the original air inlet and the updated u shaped tube is attached to the OEM air filter housing. TSB-04-24-22 PART NUMBER PART NAME XC3Z-9F843-AA Air Intake XC3Z-9E618-AA Strap

I would not run a FRAM air filter myself. I install a K&N filter after my factory filter got water logged and sucked up into the top of the filter canister. The K&N has a wire structure and will not colapse like a paper filter which has no real structure to it. I also recently had a problem with the cat converter on mine. It became stopped up and had to be replaced. This is all due to the massive amount of raw fuel that passed through it when the air filter got saturated. When this happened, the transmission wouldn't shift right and the engine started loosing power again. The cat is only warrantied for 5 years or 50,000 miles on this chassis. The factory cat is just over $800.00. This water injestion problem can get very expensive and will effect several parts of the rig.

I tried the quoted part numbers at the Ford Dealership in New Branfels ,Tx (they do Mh stuff). The part numbers did not match to the u shaped tube etc.

Here is a link to a website with the tube pictured with the part label visible. This is only the tube. The rubber strap part number is not listed on this page but Ford can look it up. Give the TSB # and they can look it up in their system. http://www.bbrv.dreamstation.com/tube.html
