I was looking at the different chassis recently on line and the new F-53 Ford V-10 chassis has a different style of air cleaner that has more of a square breather box mounted in the front with the inlet pointing to the passengers side of the chassis. They apparently decided to remedy the problem. I have not seen a 2006 chassis in person though, I hope the photo's I saw were correct.

We installed the tube on our 2001 Winnebago Adventurer last year. We've driven thousands of miles in the rain but luckily never ingested enough water to cause performance or engine problems.
It has saved money on air filters though. We went through 3 filters in the first 30,000 miles. They all were replaced because of water damage.

I wasn't so lucky. My motorhome only has 19,000.00 miles on it and it has been in the shop for over a month because number 5 lost compression. I still haven't heard what the cause was but they estimate the cost for repairs to be about $10,000.00 for a new motor installed if it needs it.
My water problem was about 4,000 miles and about 5 months earlier. It still ran good enough that Ford had a hard time figuring out that there was a problem. It had low power, started burning oil and using a lot more fuel than usual.

Afton, Your problems seem similar to what I experienced last year...low power...burning more fuel..excessive heat from motor...turned out that the catalyic converter was bad...replaced it...MH runs great.

I already had the cat. conv. checked and it is OK. Number 5 has low compression and using a scope, we could see metal embedded on top of this piston. Number 5 also had mis-fires on the scope. Sounds like it broke a ring. This is the same cylinder Ford had problems with, when the spark plug was backing out, if I read correct information in other posts and the Ford tech. site. They are supposed to pull the head to see what is on top of the piston and then decide if they have to pull the motor.

I finally got my motorhome out of the shop again. The number 5 piston was broke. They said it was a factory defect but who knows. I drove it home from New Mexico and it clattered all the way. It is in the shop again for the detination problem. On the way home, the throttle body idle adjustment screw worked its way in until it was almost out of threads. I didn't know this until I got to Andrews Tx. and tried to stop at a red light. It was idling at 3500 RPM and I had to throw it in neutral to stop. The lock tight was gone from the screw, or was it ever there? No one knows, but this could have been deadly as I almost rear-ended a truck and trailer at the light before I figured out the RPM's were too high. If you have a Ford V-10, better check the idle screw on the throttle body to make sure they put lock tight on the threads to hold it in place.

Well, I am on vacation, staying in a motel. My motorhome has been in the shop since I drove it back from Portales, NM. When Sewell Ford checked the engine again, they found that the number 6 cylinder had the same problem now, that the number 5 did earlier. The extended warranty obviously only wants to fix the detected problem and will not replace the engine. The service manager at Sewell Ford, finally convinced the Ford Warranty Division to send someone out to look at it, as he belives that I just have a "bad engine". They have been working with the warranty division to replace the engine under a "Good Faith" arraingment, since this happened out of warranty. We had a vacation scheduled to Atlanta GA for late June, early July but they were not able to get the engine into the dealership to get it changed in time to take the motorhome. I have not been able to use my motorhome for almost a year now without having some type of problems with the engine and have not been able to use it at all since the #5 piston broke in November 2005. They say that the problems will be resolved after the engine is replaced. I called today and they say it will be ready this Thursday (July6th). I am going to put it up for sale after I get it back. It only has 19,000 miles on it and with the new motor, I am sure it will make someone happy. I am going to get a PU and a 5th wheel. The motorhome side of it, (Winnebago) has basically been flawless, I have basically only had problems with the "Ford" side of it.

I lost my engine due to water injestion through the air filter inlet. My motorhome was only a month or so out of warranty when this happened. Ford told me that they were aware of the problem and have a fix for it but they don't tell any one about it until they bring their rig in for repairs and then they put it on it.
When my engine first started failing, my extended warranty replaced a piston that had broken. On the way home from the repair shop, another piston broke. Ford never would agree that this was caused by my engine flooding when my air filter became saturated with water, they just stated that it was bad pistons.
My dealerhip (Sewell Ford) was very helpful and worked with the warranty division and they decided to meet me half way to replace my engine. I now have a new motor but recenlty had the catalytic converter stop up, causing it to run bad again. Ford again agreed to meet me half way since the cat was out of warranty, but I opted to repair it myself.
I would contact you local dealereship to get the number for the motorhome division and explain the problem, that is how I got assistance started. The warranty people did not want to help me but when I started talking about filing a class action law suit with the possibility of Ford having to potentionally buy back mine and possibly other motorhomes that have had this problem, the dealership started trying to help me and they are actually the ones that got the warranty division to agree to meet me half way. It only cost me $2500.00 for my part to get my engine replaced.

I have a 2001 Seaview on an F53. I've looked at my intake and it looks like neither the U shaped tube nor the straight down tube, It has a clam shell shaped intake with the open side aimed to the rear. Is this another version of the intake or some sort of "fix". The MH has 20,000 miles, I just recently acquired it.
