I have a 99 F53 chasis under my National Tropical. I took the unit to local Ford dealer last winter (OCT). The service manager unplugged the wires, taped them up and said they wouldn't get any parts until at least December. I have called each month and got the same answer, no parts yet.

So today I called another dealer and they confirmed that they didn't have any and didn't think anyone in the USA had any. Then he went to explain that this part was made out of the country and none of the parts that have been sent to the US passed inspection.

So what do you folks know? I can go but would like to have it all in working order.

Mike

w7co: I am having the same problem, no available repair or bypass parts. I am dumbfounded that Ford can get away with this. I can have one made up, but most electrical places do not want the liability. I did not hear about the refused shipment, but does not surprise me. At the very least, Ford should have to make the safety repair themselves and install. There is more to this story than we are being told.

Ford now has the repair parts for the speed control. Consists of a new switch and harnes. Took 5 minutes to install. Well actually it took over 5 months but who's counting. Big Hand

Indeed, the new switch and harness is available!

I stopped at a local Ford dealership in Rhinebeck, NY today. They installed the parts. Took all of 5 minutes to install the harness and switch. I was at the dealership less then 15 minutes total. I was a drop-in with no appointment by the way. So quick and easy... I felt I was very lucky it went so smoothly. I figured they would not have the parts again....

I found 2 different recall dates. Is this a recall on a recall? The second one does not refer to the Cruise Control. Plus the year span is different. Is it a different wiring problem? Roll Eyes

Ford Recalling Motorhome Chassis
MotorHome, August 21, 2007

Ford is recalling 3.6 million vehicles because of problems with the cruise control switches, which has led to previous recalls. Ford is responding to concerns from owners about the speed-control deactivation switch, which is powered at all times and has been implicated in a number of electrical fires. The only RVs affected by the recall are 1995-2002 Ford F-53 motorhome chassis. If you do not receive a recall notice, contact your dealer. Owners with questions may contact Ford at (888) 222-2751.

MotorHome, March 18, 2008
Ford is recalling 225,000 vehicles, including 1992-2003 E-series (includes Class C motorhomes) 1993 F-Series and 1995-1997 F-Series Super Duty Chassis (includes Class A motorhomes). The affected vehicles were previously repaired using a wiring harness that is not compatible with the vehicle circuit polarity. As a result, the fuse is located in the output circuit rather than in the intended input power feed circuit, and may not offer the intended protection in the event of an electrical short to ground. Dealers will install a new wiring harness, or replace the mating electrical component. Owners may contact Ford at 1-800-392-3673. 08V-051

Those that had the initial "Ford Recalling Motorhome Chassis MotorHome, August 21, 2007" recall work done with the problematic recall hardware, need it redone with the new recall hardware offering.

Those affected vehicles that never have had any Cruise Control recall related work done need to get the recall done with the new hardware offering..

Bottom line is IF you do not have the newest recall hardware for the Cruise Control recall issue installed on an affected vehicle, you have not met the recall requirements and your vehicle is at risk (fire risk) per Ford's bulletin issued originally in 2007.
