Clipper, I joined Photobucket.com
I put all my pictures there. Then size them down for a "message base". Right click in the URL link it will make. Then come back here and post your message. When you need to add a picture click on the little "picture" key above while typing in your post.

Good luck...

Your project looks great. Nice and clean lines- just the way I like it. How bad was teh project when you started? How long did it take you? How much do you think you will have invested- only if you are comfortable sharing? Where did you get the rear hard awning that covers the AC unit? I am looking to do the same thing with the back of my TT.

Clipper1, I've been an open book with this project. Ask anything you want. My wife bought the trailer one day while I was at work for 800 bucks. She really liked it and thought it would look neat behind our 1960 Chevy mild custom someday. We've worked on it a little at a time, when we have the extra money. I'd say we've got around and extra $2000 into it. We work on it as we have the extra cash. Could I get the money back out of it?...probably not but that's okay with us. This project has been about 1-1/2 years so far. BUT... we ALWAYS get to go camping or traveling with it. I make sure of that. I've learned doing old cars, if it's not running you get bored of it and depressed to easy. I make sure it's ready to go at anytime. Plus it's a lot easier, being it's only the two of us. As for the little awning in the back. Well I got dumb lucky. Two streets over a guy had a garage sale going and five bucks later I had two of them at home. The way it's mounted, I can't get it to close all the way but it does keep water and snow off it. One thing to remember it WILL DRAW rain and dust as you run down the road. I have a little vynal cover to go over the AC for that. Then lower the awning as far as it will. One thing to keep in mind with this set-up. The AC will always have a little bit of condinsation in the bottom. Crank up your tt as far as you can before you hook up. That will keep the water from running back inside. It's not a lot but it can make for a wet bed. LOL. Of course this only works if it's at the rear of the trailer.

Good luck... Happy camping and RV'ing.

Clipper1, If your thinking of putting an AC unit in the back window, this is how I did it. First I took the glass out with the crank assembly. Then cut 2x4's to screw into the aluminum frame work from the old window. This will make it very solid. On the outside I had some aluminum sheet material I cut to fit around the AC. Then caulk all around and paint. I still need to finish the inside. We will add small curtains to each side to of the AC to give it a finished look after the paneling goes up. Hope this helps.

Here is a couple pictures of our trailer a few days after we brought it home. It's come along way. Hard to belive that there was water damage in the top left corner of the front wall. Well, being this old it's gonna happen I guess.

Our trailer does not have any holding tanks so I needed to come up with something to use for a drain. I didn't want to use a bucket or carry a blue tote. Since I only have sink waste I made this. My trailer drains to the ground with 1-1/2 pipe from the factory. I took a piece of 3" PVC pipe, a 3x2 coupling, a 2x1-1/2 bushing, a small piece of 1-1/2 pipe and a rubber 1-1/2" elbow. Glued everything together and ussed a couple of screws to twist the hose onto. After hooking up I add water to the p-trap and put a 4x4 under the hose for a second trap. Works great. I will add a gray tank this summer. But until then this will do.

Looks like AC units are getting popular. I have been asked in other forums about how I have it mounted. So I better get some updated pictures here too. Big Grin The unit I bought at Home Depot was around $80.00. It's a Hampton Bay 5050 BTU unit that measures out at 17-1/4" wide and ~11" tall. I've got 6" sticking inside the trailer and 3-3/4" outside the trailer. You can see it rest on the 2x4 I have scewed into the aluminum window frame. Then I took the metal bracket it came with to hold it on the outside of the house and used it for a bracket on top of the AC. I then got some ell brackets and did the sides. Cut the cord down and I'm done. You can grab the AC and shake the trailer if you want to. It does not move at all. Hope to finish the inside this spring. Cools our 16' trailer great.

Howdy,

I'm in the process of rebuilding my 5th wheel and am considering using the rigid insulation. How is it working out in your trailer?

Thank you for your time,

Pat
