Just returned home from a week of camping at Bristol. The weather is almost always a consideration at BMS, but this year it was really nasty. Cold for much of the week and raining on Friday and Saturday. Got to see 45 minutes of cup practice on Friday before the deluge and the Nationwide race on Saturday was delayed, then rained out a little past half way. Sunday was a nice day for the Food City 500. Good weather or bad, I love NASCAR racing.

One thing that was distressing was the partially empty campgrounds in and around the speedway. And even though the Sunday race was sold out, there were quite a few empty seats which is very unusual for Bristol. Must be the economy and gas prices.

On a positive note, the wife and I visited Jonesborough, the oldest town in Tennessee and really enjoyed it. Very historic and a nice place to spend the day. Next NASCAR stop for us is Talladega.

Hi Al;

Glad that you had a good trip to the sunshine state. Did you get to stay at that CG in Broward County? We spent two months or so in various places in Florida over December and January ending with a week stay for speedweeks at Daytona and the 500. The best thing of all was that my rig performed great except that the 4 1/2 year old Dometic refrig's cooling unit failed and had to be replaced. No cost as there was a recall. Seems that some of these Dometics die at 4 to 5 years??? Roll Eyes Anyway, had a great time.

So, going from the sunshine state to the garden state, eh? I do miss good ole North Arlington at times! Safe travels!

10 of us went to Bristol. Took 2 rv's, 5 people per RV. My coach and a buddies 24' travel trailer. We stayed at Bill Gaines CG near gate 2 and had our own lake thanks to the rain and poor drainage. Got the coach stuck in the mud getting into the campsite, had to be pulled out by a tractor (no damage). Came in from a different direction and set up a great compound. Partied, watched the races and partied (oh, I already said that!). Then got stuck in the mud getting out of the site even in an area that looked semi dry and had to be pulled out by an F-250 (still no damage!). Even with all the mud, bad decisions on campsite access by me and the makeshift lake, we wouldn't have traded it for anything!! We had a blast. Thank god for awnings, canopies and patio carpets... oh, and beer!!!!
